Uses of Myostigmin Injection

Myostigmin 2.5 mg Injection is used in the treatment of myasthenia gravis, paralytic ileus, post-operative urinary retention and reversal of effect of skeletal muscle relaxant after surgery.

Pregnancy
WEIGH RISKS VS BENEFITS
Myostigmin 2.5 mg Injection may be unsafe to use during pregnancy.
Animal studies have shown adverse effects on the foetus, however, there are limited human studies. The benefits from use in pregnant women may be acceptable despite the risk. Please consult your doctor.
Lactation
CAUTION
Myostigmin 2.5 mg Injection should be used with caution during lactation. Breast feeding should be held until the treatment of the mother is completed and the drug is eliminated from her body.
Driving
It is not known whether Myostigmin 2.5 mg Injection alters the ability to drive. Do not drive if you experience any symptoms that affect your ability to concentrate and react.
Kidney
CAUTION
Myostigmin 2.5 mg Injection should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Myostigmin 2.5 mg Injection may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
Regular monitoring of kidney function test and some blood tests may advised while you are taking this medicine.
Liver
Myostigmin 2.5 mg Injection is probably safe to use in patients with liver disease. Limited data available suggests that dose adjustment of Myostigmin 2.5 mg Injection may not be needed in these patients. Please consult your doctor.

What if you miss a dose of Myostigmin Injection?

If you miss a dose of Myostigmin 2.5 mg Injection, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

  • You have been prescribed Myostigmin 2.5 mg Injection for treatment of myasthenia gravis.
  • It may also be used to treat Inactivity of the muscle in the intestines (paralytic ileus) and difficulty in passing urine (urinary retention) after an operation.
  • Take it with food to avoid an upset stomach.
  • Take it as per the dose and duration advised by your doctor. Overdosing can result in extreme muscle weakness.
  • It may cause dizziness or blurred vision. Don't drive or do anything requiring concentration until you know how it affects you.
  • Do not drink alcohol while taking this medicine as it may worsen the side effects.
  • Inform your doctor if you have an existing kidney problem, asthma, or stomach disorders.
