Your child’s medicine at a glance

Monoclar 125mg Tablet DT is an antibiotic medication. It is given to children to treat a wide range of bacterial infections targeting the ear, throat, teeth, lungs, heart, skin, and gastrointestinal tract. It also helps treat bacterial infections that can occur in children with HIV due to their weak immune systems.

Monoclar 125mg Tablet DT should be given by mouth with or without food. It is usually given two times a day, preferably in the morning and evening. Since, the medicine dose depends on the type of infection, its severity, and your child’s age and body weight, make sure to stick to the dose, time, and way prescribed by the doctor. In case your child vomits within 30 minutes of intake, repeat the same dose.

This medicine may cause some minor and temporary side effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, headache, and taste change. These should subside within a few days of starting the medicine. But, in case these effects fail to improve or become bothersome for your child, consult your child’s doctor without any delay.

Inform your child’s doctor about any previous history of allergy, heart problem, liver impairment, and kidney malfunction. Knowing the child’s medical history is critical for dose alterations and for planning your child’s overall treatment.

FAQs

Q. In what dose should I give Monoclar 125mg Tablet DT to my child?

Hence, altering it by yourself may cause side effects or make Monoclar 125mg Tablet DT ineffective. In fact, if you give the medicine in the prescribed dose, time, and way, your child may start showing improvement after a few regular doses. But, make sure to complete the full course without stopping the medicine abruptly as doing so may make your child sick again. Also, the remaining bacteria might become resistant to the Monoclar 125mg Tablet DT. Thus, following the prescribed treatment course is important and stressed upon for every medicine.

Q. What if I give an overdose of Monoclar 125mg Tablet DT by mistake?

Monoclar 125mg Tablet DT is unlikely to cause any harm if an extra dose is given by mistake. But, it is important to be careful because overdose may cause unwanted side effects and may even worsen your child’s condition. So, if you think you have given too much of Monoclar 125mg Tablet DT to your child, it will be wise to speak to a doctor immediately.

Q. Are there any possible serious side effects of Monoclar 125mg Tablet DT?

Monoclar 125mg Tablet DT can sometimes interact with other medicines or substances. Tell your doctor about any other medicines your child is taking before starting Monoclar 125mg Tablet DT. Also, check with your child’s doctor before giving any medicine to your child.

Q. Can I get my child vaccinated while on treatment with Monoclar 125mg Tablet DT ?

Antibiotics usually do not interfere with the ingredients in vaccines or cause a bad reaction in a child who has just been vaccinated. However, children taking antibiotics should not get vaccinated until they recover from the illness. As soon as your child feels better, the vaccine can be given.

Q. Which all lab tests should my child undergo while taking Monoclar 125mg Tablet DT on a long term basis?

The doctor may prescribe getting kidney function tests, liver function tests, and baseline ECG on a periodic basis to keep a check on your child’s condition.

Moreover, taking antibiotics may kill off the good bacteria present in the digestive system along with the bad ones, increasing your child’s risk of developing stomach problems. So, in case your child is having diarrhea while on Monoclar 125mg Tablet DT, do not stop the medicine course. Instead, call your child’s doctor to ask about the next steps. In some cases, the doctor may alter the dose.

Use Monoclar 125mg Tablet DT with caution in children with neuromuscular disorders like Myasthenia gravis as it may cause exacerbation of symptoms and even onset of some new symptoms.

Q. How can the bacteria develop resistance against Monoclar 125mg Tablet DT?

Using Monoclar 125mg Tablet DT when your child does not need it will give the bacteria an opportunity to adapt to the medicine and develop ways to escape the medicine’s effects. This will make the medicine ineffective when your child actually needs it. Usually, when this happens, people say that the child has become resistant to the antibiotic, but in reality, it is the opposite. It is actually the bacteria that have become resistant to the treatment.
