Overview

Introduction

Miso-Gyn 200 Tablet is a medicine used for medical abortion (terminating a pregnancy). It is also used for preventing excessive bleeding after delivery. This medicine acts on the uterus and increases its contraction.

Miso-Gyn 200 Tablet is given alone or in combination with some other medicine to attain the maximum benefit. It should be taken with food or as your doctor's advice. It should be taken orally, by swallow the tablets whole with a drink of water. If you experience vomiting within 30 minutes of tablet intake, inform your doctor or take another tablet. The medicine may take 24 hours to show its action and you experience bleeding.

The most common side effects of this medicine include nausea, Vomiting, Uterine cramps, Diarrhea, Infection following abortion, Uterine bleeding. If these bother you, or appear serious, let your doctor know. There may be ways of reducing or preventing them. Usually, vaginal bleeding may last for 12 days, inform your doctor if it lasts for more than 12 days or you notice severe abdominal pain.

Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you have ever had an ectopic pregnancy, or you are breastfeeding or using an intrauterine device. Your doctor should also know about all other medicines you are taking as many of these may make this medicine less effective or change the way it works. You must avoid strenuous activity like heavy exercise, running and driving while abortion as it can affect the bleeding. Your doctor may perform an ultrasound or pelvic examination to check for abortion completion.

How to cope with side effects?

The occurrence of side effects varies from person to person. The following are a few ways of dealing with some of the common side effects. However, consult your doctor if these persist.

  • Coping with Vomiting
    You can help yourself by eating small, frequent meals rather than large ones and drinking plenty of fluids. Eat slowly. Avoid fatty, fried, spicy and very sweet foods. Eat cold or slightly warm food if the smell of cooked or cooking food makes you feel sick. Get plenty of fresh air. You could also try chewing ginger or drinking ginger tea. Eat bananas to replace potassium in your blood which can drop if you are sick (vomit). Use oral rehydration salts to replace vitamins and minerals lost through being sick. There are some medicines that can help you stop feeling sick. Speak to your doctor if your condition does not improve.
  • Coping with Nausea
    You can help yourself by eating small, frequent meals rather than large ones and drinking plenty of fluids. Eat slowly. Avoid fatty, fried, spicy and very sweet foods. Eat cold or slightly warm food if the smell of cooked or cooking food makes you feel sick. Get plenty of fresh air. You could also try chewing ginger or drinking ginger tea.     Keep up your intake of fluids and electrolytes (sugars and salts) to avoid getting dehydrated. Eat less fiber (avoid raw fruits, fruit juice and vegetables). Talk to your doctor about possible medication to manage diarrhea. Ask about reducing the dosage of your drug or other suitable treatments.
  • Coping with Stomach cramp
    In most cases, this is mild enough to be treated at home. Try to rest and relax. Putting a heat pad or covered hot water bottle on your stomach may also help. Having a warm bath or shower can help you relax and relieve the pain. Drink plenty of clear fluids such as water and reduce your intake of coffee, tea, lemon juice or soda. Avoid alcohol and smoking as these can aggravate the pain. Eating slowly and having smaller and more frequent meals can also help. If the pain is severe, speak to your doctor. They may be able to guide you better.

How to use Miso-Gyn Tablet

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Miso-Gyn 200 Tablet is to be taken with food.

How Miso-Gyn Tablet works

Miso-Gyn 200 Tablet increases contractions of the uterus to cause abortion. It can also prevent post-delivery bleeding due to poor contraction of the uterus.

Breastfeeding
CAUTION
Miso-Gyn 200 Tablet should be used with caution during breastfeeding. Breastfeeding should be held until the treatment of the mother is completed and the drug is eliminated from her body.
Driving
UNSAFE
Miso-Gyn 200 Tablet may decrease alertness, affect your vision or make you feel sleepy and dizzy. Do not drive if these symptoms occur.
Kidney
SAFE IF PRESCRIBED
Miso-Gyn 200 Tablet is safe to use in patients with kidney disease. No dose adjustment of Miso-Gyn 200 Tablet is recommended.
However, inform your doctor if you have an underlying kidney disease. This medicine may be started with a low dose and then increased with caution by your doctor.
Liver
SAFE IF PRESCRIBED
Miso-Gyn 200 Tablet is probably safe to use in patients with liver disease. Limited data available suggests that dose adjustment of Miso-Gyn 200 Tablet may not be needed in these patients. Please consult your doctor.

What if you forget to take Miso-Gyn Tablet?

If you miss a dose of Miso-Gyn 200 Tablet, it is likely that the termination will not be fully effective. Talk to your doctor if you forget to take Miso-Gyn 200 Tablet.

  • For pregnancy termination:

Q. What is Miso-Gyn and what is used for?

Miso-Gyn contains a medicine called Misoprostol. It helps in medical termination of the pregnancy. It is prescribed along with another medicine called Mifepristone. It is only used to terminate a pregnancy which should not be more than 63 days old, counting from the first day of the last menstrual period. It works by increasing the contractions of the uterus. It may also be used in the prevention or treatment of post-delivery bleeding and for cervical ripening.

Q. What should I expect after taking Miso-Gyn?

For medical termination of pregnancy: You may experience abdominal cramping, diarrhea, stomach pain, and nausea immediately after taking Miso-Gyn. You may also have vaginal bleeding within 4 hours of taking Miso-Gyn. You may also be asked to stay at the clinic or healthcare center for at least 3 hours after taking this medicine. After 14 days of taking Mifepristone (pill you took before Miso-Gyn) your gynaecologist may run some blood tests or perform ultrasonography to confirm whether pregnancy has been terminated or not.

No, studies have shown that this medicine does not impair the fertility of the women. Your future chances of getting pregnant are as equal as of those who have not taken this medicine.
