Markodin Syrup is only prescribed to individuals who are at least 18 years of age or above. It may be habit forming and should be taken only as directed by your doctor. It can be taken with or without food. In general, you should try to use the smallest amount necessary to control your symptoms, for the shortest possible time. You should take this medicine regularly while you need it. Try not to miss doses as this will make the medicine less effective.

Some common side effects of this medicine include drowsiness, lightheadedness, dizziness, sedation, shortness of breath, nausea, vomiting, and sweating. If any of these side effects do not resolve with time or get worse, you should let your doctor know. Your doctor may be able to suggest ways of preventing or reducing the symptoms.

To make sure it is safe for you, before taking this medicine, let your doctor know if you have any medical conditions or disorders. It will also relieve allergy symptoms like watery eyes, sneezing, runny nose or throat irritation and help you carry out your daily activities more easily.

This medicine is safe and effective. Markodin Syrup usually starts to work within a few minutes and the effects can last up to several hours. Take it as prescribed by the doctor. Do not stop using it unless you are advised to by your doctor.

Taking Markodin with any of the following medicines can modify the effect of either of them and cause some undesirable side effects

Life-threatening

Naltrexone (Oral Route)

Do not consume Naltrexone with Codeine; watch out for symptoms such as breathlessness, increased heart rate, or headache. Naltrexone may reduce efficacy of Codeine.

Severe

Alprazolam (Oral Route)

If concurrent use is essential, watch out for symptoms of Alprazolam side effects such as drowsiness, excessive sedation, tiredness, dizziness or slurred speech and consult your doctor if you experience them. They may adjust the dose of Alprazolam as per the observations. It is advised to avoid driving or undertaking other tasks requiring skill and alertness.

If concurrent use is essential, watch out for symptoms of Chlordiazepoxide side effects such as drowsiness, excessive sedation, tiredness, dizziness or slurred speech and consult your doctor if you experience them. Who is codeine not suitable for?

FDA (Food and Drug Administration) has restricted the use of codeine to treat pain or cough in children younger than 12 years. This is because it poses serious risks, including slowed or difficult breathing and death, which appear to be a greater risk in children younger than 12 years. Along with this, this medicine is also not recommended to breastfeeding mothers due to the risk of serious adverse reactions in breastfed infants. These include excess sleepiness, difficulty breastfeeding, or serious breathing problems which can be fatal.
