How to use Loripam Tablet

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Loripam 2 mg Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

How Loripam Tablet works

Loripam 2 mg Tablet is a benzodiazepine. It works by increasing the action of a chemical messenger (GABA) which suppresses the abnormal and excessive activity of the nerve cells in the brain.

It is unsafe to consume alcohol with Loripam 2 mg Tablet.
Pregnancy
WEIGH RISKS VS BENEFITS
Loripam 2 mg Tablet is unsafe to use during pregnancy.
There is positive evidence of human fetal risk, but the benefits from use in pregnant women may be acceptable despite the risk, for example in life-threatening situations. Please consult your doctor.
Lactation
CAUTION
Loripam 2 mg Tablet is probably unsafe to use during lactation. Limited human data suggest that the drug could represent a significant risk to the baby.
Loripam 2 mg Tablet should be used for short periods and sleepiness of the baby should be watched. The withdrawal of Loripam 2 mg Tablet should be gradual.
Driving
Loripam 2 mg Tablet may make you feel dizzy, sleepy, tired, or decrease alertness. If this happens, do not drive.
Kidney
Loripam 2 mg Tablet should be used with caution in patients with severe kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Loripam 2 mg Tablet may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
However, inform your doctor if you have any underlying kidney disease.
Liver
Loripam 2 mg Tablet should be used with caution in patients with severe liver disease. Dose adjustment of Loripam 2 mg Tablet may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
Use of Loripam 2 mg Tablet is not recommended in patients with severe liver disease.

What if you miss a dose of Loripam Tablet?

If you miss a dose of Loripam 2 mg Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

Q. Is Loripam an opioid? Is it a habit-forming medicine?

No, Loripam is not an opioid. It belongs to the benzodiazepine group of medicines and is used for short-term treatment (2-4 weeks) only. It is a habit-forming medicine and can make a person physically and psychologically dependent.

Q. Can Loripam be used as a sleeping pill?

Loripam is used for sleeping difficulties caused due to short-term anxiety. One of the very common side effects of Loripam is drowsiness and sleepiness. It calms the mind, and therefore, helps a person to sleep.

Q. For how long will Loripam stay in my system?

Loripam may take around 3 days to get completely removed from the system.

Q. Are there any symptoms that I would experience if I get addicted to Loripam?

The most important symptom of addiction is that you may feel unpleasant if you do not take Loripam. Another symptom could be that you may increase the dose on your own to feel its effect.

Q. If I suddenly stop taking Loripam, will it affect me adversely?

You should reduce the dose of Loripam gradually before completely stopping it. Suddenly stopping it may lead to withdrawal symptoms which include loss of the sense of reality, feeling detached from life, and unable to feel emotion. Some patients have also experienced numbness or tingling in the arms or legs, tinnitus (ringing sounds in the ears), uncontrolled or overactive movements, twitching, shaking, feeling sick, being sick, stomach upsets or stomach pain, loss of appetite, agitation and abnormally fast heart beats. It can also cause panic attacks, dizziness or feeling faint, memory loss, hallucinations, feeling stiff and unable to move easily, feeling very warm, convulsions (sudden uncontrolled shaking or jerking of the body) and oversensitivity to light, sound and touch.

Q. Does Loripam cause weight gain?

The effect of Loripam on weight gain or loss is not known.

Q. Does Loripam cause depression?

If you have a history of depression then it may increase the risk of developing depression again. Loripam should not be used alone in depressed patients because it may cause suicidal tendencies in such patients.

Q. My old uncle is taking Loripam for sleeplessness associated with anxiety. Can it affect his memory?

Though it is rare, but use of Loripam can cause memory impairment, which may be more apparent in old age patients.

Q. Are there any harmful effects of taking more than the recommended doses of Loripam?

Taking more than the recommended dose of Loripam may cause loss of muscle control, low blood pressure, mental confusion, slow breathing and even coma. If you have taken higher than the recommended dose of Loripam, seek immediate medical help immediately.
