The most common side effects of this medicine include injection site reactions such as pain, swelling, redness. Patients may also experience other side effects such as reduction in bone density, upset stomach, weight gain, mood changes, and behavioral changes on taking the medicine.

Taking Kenacort Hexa Injection can also make it harder for you to fight off infections. Tell your doctor if you have any signs of infection such as fever or sore throat. This drug is not recommended during pregnancy and before taking this medicine, let your doctor know if you have any liver or kidney problems.

It must not be given to newborns up to 4 weeks old, or to children under 3 years, as it can be harmful at that age.

Is Kenacort Hexa Injection safe for children and teens?

Kenacort Hexa Injection can be used inside joints for children aged 3 to 12 years with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) under specialist care. Also, children on long-term steroid therapy need growth checks, because steroids can slow growth. It should not be used in babies under 4 weeks or children under 3 years.

When should Kenacort Hexa Injection be delayed or avoided?

Do not give Kenacort Hexa Injection into a joint that is infected or very unstable, and do not use this medicine to treat joint pain caused by an infection like gonococcal or tubercular arthritis. If you are exposed to chickenpox or measles, and your immune system is weakened from steroids, your doctor may give preventive treatment and delay this medicine until it is safe.

Can Kenacort Hexa Injection raise blood sugar or blood pressure?

Yes. Kenacort Hexa Injection can increase blood sugar, and reduce how your body handles sugar, so people with diabetes may need closer checks, and possible medicine changes. It can also raise blood pressure and cause fluid retention (extra body water). Your doctor will monitor sugar, blood pressure, and other labs as needed during treatment.

Are there eye risks I should know about during Kenacort Hexa Injection?

Kenacort Hexa Injection can cause blurred vision, cataracts, raised eye pressure (glaucoma), or a rare eye condition called central serous chorioretinopathy (fluid under the retina). Report any new vision changes promptly, and you may be sent to an eye specialist. Eye checks are especially important if you already have eye disease or need repeated treatments.
