Overview

Introduction of Fadine Tablet

Fadine 40 Tablet is a prescription medicine used for the treatment of peptic ulcer disease and gastroesophageal reflux disease (acid reflux).

Fadine 40 Tablet is taken by mouth with or without food preferably before bedtime as it is very effective in controlling stomach acid released in the midnight. Take this medicine in dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Before taking this medicine it is better to inform doctor if you have any kidney disease as dose of your medicine needs to be adjusted. You should not take this medicine along with an antacid, so try to take it two hours before taking this medicine. It is well tolerated and safe medicine with a very low incidence of side effects. However, it may cause headache and it also causes dizziness, so do not drive or do anything that requires mental focus until you know how this medicine affects you. This medicine may cause diarrhea, so it is better to take plenty of fluids while taking this medicine as it may help to prevent dehydration. In some cases this medicine may cause constipation but increase in fluid intake can be helpful in this condition also.

How Fadine Tablet works

Fadine 40 Tablet is a H2 blocker (antacid). It works by reducing the amount of acid in the stomach which helps in relief of acid related indigestion and heartburn.

Alcohol
UNSAFE
It is unsafe to consume alcohol with Fadine 40 Tablet Taking a large amount of alcohol can increase acidity and cause acid reflux in the food pipe causing heartburn. This would decrease the effect of this drug and can aggravate your underlying condition.
Pregnancy
SAFE IF PRESCRIBED
Fadine 40 Tablet is generally considered safe to use during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown low or no adverse effects to the developing baby; however, there are limited human studies.
Lactation
SAFE IF PRESCRIBED
Fadine 40 Tablet is probably safe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug does not represent any significant risk to the baby.
Driving
SAFE
Fadine 40 Tablet does not usually affect your ability to drive.
Kidney
CAUTION
Fadine 40 Tablet should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Fadine 40 Tablet may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
Liver

Fadine 40 Tablet is probably safe to use in patients with liver disease. Limited data available suggests that dose adjustment of Fadine 40 Tablet may not be needed in these patients. Please consult your doctor.

What if you miss a dose of Fadine Tablet?

If you miss a dose of Fadine 40 Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

Q. Can I take Fadine empty stomach?

Fadine may be taken with or without food. It can be taken once daily before bedtime or twice daily in the morning and before bedtime, as recommended.

Q. How long does it take for Fadine to start working?

After taking Fadine orally, the effect occurs within one hour. The maximum effect is generally reached within one to three hours of taking it. However, it depends upon the dose. The action of the medicine lasts for about 10 to 12 hours.

Q. What is the difference between Fadine and omeprazole?

Fadine and Omeprazole belong to different group of medicines. While Fadine belongs to histamine H2 antagonists group, Omeprazole belongs to proton pump inhibitors group. These medicines (Fadine and Omeprazole) work by reducing the amount of acid made by the stomach, to give relief of symptoms and allow healing to take place.

Q. Can I take alcohol with Fadine?

Alcohol does not interfere with the working of Fadine. But, you should avoid taking alcohol as it will further damage the stomach, delaying your recovery.

Q. What are the serious side effects of Fadine?

Fadine may have some serious side effects, but these are rare. These side effects may include hives, skin rash, itching, hoarseness and difficulty in breathing or swallowing. Another serious symptom may be swelling of the face, throat, tongue, lips, eyes, hands, feet, ankles, or lower legs. Inform your doctor in case you notice any of the mentioned symptoms.

Q. What are the dos and don’ts while taking Fadine?

Avoid taking aspirin and other painkillers used to treat arthritis, period pain or headache. These medicines may irritate the stomach and make your condition worse. Contact your doctor who may suggest other medicines. Avoid coffee, tea, cocoa and cola drinks because these contain ingredients that may irritate your stomach. Eat smaller, more frequent meals. Eat slowly and chew your food carefully. Try not to rush at meal times. You should stop or cut down on smoking.

Q. Is Fadine safe for long-term use?

There is limited data available on whether Fadine can be used for a long term or not, but it is a relatively safe medicine. You should take it for the duration advised by your doctor. Do not take over-the-counter Fadine for longer than 2 weeks unless advised by your doctor.

Q. Is there any difference between Fadine and ranitidine?

No, there is no difference between the two medicines. It is just that Fadine gives the same benefits as ranitidine at a lower cost.
