Introduction of Dytor Tablet

Dytor 100 Tablet is a type of diuretic (water pill). This medicine reduces excess fluid levels in the body and is used to treat edema (fluid overload) associated with heart, liver, kidney, or lung disease. It is also used in treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure). It is a rapidly-acting medicine that makes you lose excess water through urine. This medicine should be taken only during day time to avoid frequent urination at night. It may be used alone or in combination with other medicines. Regular monitoring of kidney function and electrolytes is important while using this medicine. Dizziness and headache may occur as side effects initially, but these improve with time.

How to use Dytor Tablet

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Dytor 100 Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

How Dytor Tablet works

Dytor 100 Tablet is a diuretic. It removes extra water and certain electrolytes from the body by increasing the amount of urine produced. In doing so, it causes potassium loss.

Dytor Tablet related warnings

Alcohol
CAUTION
It is unsafe to consume alcohol with Dytor 100 Tablet. Taking Torsamide with alcohol may have additive effects in lowering your blood pressure. You may experience headache, dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, and/or changes in pulse or heart rate.
Pregnancy
PROBABLY SAFE
Dytor 100 Tablet is probably safe to use during pregnancy.
Animal studies have shown low or no adverse effect on the fetus, however, there are limited human studies. Please consult your doctor.
Lactation
Dytor 100 Tablet is probably safe to use during lactation. Limited human data suggests that the drug does not represent a significant risk to the baby.
Driving
Dytor 100 Tablet may make you feel dizzy, sleepy, tired, or decrease alertness. If this happens, do not drive.
Kidney
SAFE
Dytor 100 Tablet is safe to use in patients with kidney disease. No dose adjustment of Dytor 100 Tablet is recommended.
However, inform your doctor if you have any kidney disease as the use of Dytor 100 Tablet should be avoided in case you are unable to pass urine or the kidney damage is due to some medicines.
Liver
CAUTION
Dytor 100 Tablet should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Dose adjustment of Dytor 100 Tablet may be needed. Please consult your doctor.

What if you miss a dose of Dytor Tablet?

If you miss a dose of Dytor 100 Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

Q. Does Dytor raise blood sugar?

Yes, Dytor may raise blood sugar levels causing hyperglycemia. Hence, blood glucose levels should be regularly checked during treatment with Dytor.

Q. What are the side effects of Dytor?

The common side effects of Dytor include frequent urination, cough, constipation, diarrhea, hearing loss, ringing in ears, sore throat, headache and upset stomach. Whereas, the serious side effects of Dytor include signs of dehydration and electrolyte imbalance, rapid, excessive weight loss, vomiting blood, chest pain, difficulty breathing or swallowing, blisters or peeling skin, hives, rash, and itching. One may also experience pain that begins in the stomach and may also spread to the back.

Q. Does Dytor increase creatinine?

Yes, Dytor may cause a mild increase in creatinine values, which is dose related. These increased levels may increase slightly more with long-term treatment. However, with discontinuation of treatment these levels return to their base value.

Q. Does Dytor cause loss of potassium?

Dytor may not cause direct potassium loss. But, in some cases its use may cause excess loss of water which may lead to dehydration. This as a result may cause loss of potassium, sodium, calcium and magnesium.

Q. Can I stop taking Dytor?

Do not stop taking Dytor without talking to your doctor. Discontinuation of the medicine may make your condition as it was before treatment although the blood pressure levels does not overshoot. Discuss with your doctor who will advise you another blood pressure lowering medicine, as per your requirement.

Q. How should Dytor be taken?

Take Dytor exactly as advised by your doctor. Generally, it is recommended to take Dytor once daily preferably at the same time each day. Dytor is known to cause excess urination, and hence it is advised to take it in the morning or 3-4 hours before going to bed.

Q. Is Dytor stronger than furosemide?

Both Dytor and furosemide are almost similar in terms of safety and effectiveness. The only difference is that Dytor has longer duration of action in comparison to furosemide but effect of both starts within an hour of intake.

Q. How long does it take for Dytor to show its effects?

Dytor starts acting within an hour of taking it orally. The effect lasts for about 6-8 hours when given orally.
