Diltanol 30 mg Tablet is used in the treatment of chest pain (Angina) and high blood pressure.

Common

Side Effects of Diltanol are Headache, Dizziness, Palpitations, Nausea, Dyspepsia, Fatigue, Stomach pain, Feeling of discomfort, Peripheral edema, Slow heart rate, Flushing (sense of warmth in the face, ears, neck and trunk), Redness of skin, Constipation.

How to use Diltanol Tablet

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Diltanol 30 mg Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

How Diltanol Tablet works

Diltanol 30 mg Tablet is a calcium channel blocker. It blocks the action of calcium on the heart and blood vessels, thereby widening the blood vessels and allowing more blood and oxygen to reach the heart. This reduces blood pressure and decreases the chances of angina (chest pain).

  • Diltanol 30 mg Tablet may cause dizziness or sleepiness. Don't drive or do anything requiring concentration until you know how it affects you.
  • It may cause you to feel lightheaded or weak especially when you stand up (orthostatic hypotension).  Rise slowly if you have been sitting or lying down. 
  • Talk to your doctor if you develop swelling in your arms and legs that doesn't go away.
  • It is best to avoid drinking alcohol while taking Diltanol 30 mg Tablet as it may make the side effects worse.
  • Do not stop taking Diltanol 30 mg Tablet suddenly as it can cause your blood pressure to rise suddenly thereby increasing the risk of heart attack and stroke.

Pregnancy

Diltanol 30 mg Tablet may be unsafe to use during pregnancy.
Animal studies have shown adverse effects on the foetus, however, there are limited human studies. The benefits from use in pregnant women may be acceptable despite the risk. Please consult your doctor.
Lactation

Diltanol 30 mg Tablet is safe to use during lactation. Human studies have shown that either the drug does not pass into the breastmilk in significant amount or is not expected to cause toxicity to the baby.
Driving
Diltanol 30 mg Tablet may make you feel dizzy, sleepy, tired, or decrease alertness. If this happens, do not drive.
Kidney
SAFE
Diltanol 30 mg Tablet is safe to use in patients with kidney disease. No dose adjustment of Diltanol 30 mg Tablet is recommended.
However, talk to your doctor if you have any underlying kidney disease. Regular monitoring of kidney function test is advised while you are taking this medicine.
Liver
CAUTION
Diltanol 30 mg Tablet should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Dose adjustment of Diltanol 30 mg Tablet may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
