Dapsone Tablet should be used in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. It should be taken with or without food, preferably at a fixed time. Avoid skipping any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose. Simply take the next dose as planned.

Some people may develop a skin rash and fever as side effects of this medicine. It may also cause nausea and vomiting. Consult your doctor if these side effects bother you or persist for a longer duration.

Dapsone Tablet should be used with caution in individuals with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency, as it may increase the risk of hemolysis. Careful monitoring is also required in patients with anemia, liver impairment, or pre-existing blood disorders. It is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to sulfone drugs. Regular blood counts and liver function tests may be advised during treatment. If symptoms such as fatigue, pale skin, dark urine, or skin rash occur, seek medical attention promptly.

How Dapsone Tablet works

Dapsone Tablet helps stop the growth and multiplication of the bacteria causing the infection. It interferes with the production of essential components (folic acid / dihydrofolic acid) needed by the bacteria to survive and multiply. This reduces the spread of infection, helps control symptoms, and supports gradual recovery when used as part of combination therapy.

Inform your doctor if your condition does not improve or if you get eye or nerve problems, and inform your doctor if you have G6PD deficiency, anemia, or any blood-related disorder.
Regular blood tests may be required to monitor safety during treatment.

Taking Dapsone with any of the following medicines can modify the effect of either of them and cause some undesirable side effects

Severe

Saquinavir (Oral Route)

Do not consume Dapsone with Saquinavir. If concurrent use is essential, watch out for symptoms of Saquinavir side effects such as nausea, headache, numbness, fever, dizziness, stomach pain or blurred vision and consult your doctor if you experience them. They may adjust the doses as per the observations. Saquinavir may raise blood levels of Dapsone.

Moderate

Clozapine (Oral Route)

Your doctor may monitor your blood cell count and adjust the doses as per the observations.

Moderate

Valganciclovir (Oral Route)

Do not consume Valganciclovir with Dapsone. If concurrent use is essential, your doctor may monitor your treatment and adjust the doses as per the observations. Dapsone may raise blood levels of Valganciclovir.

Continue taking Dapsone Tablet in the dose and duration advised by the doctor.

Can I take a higher than the recommended dose of this medicine?

No, Dapsone Tablet should be taken in the recommended dose only. Overdose of Dapsone Tablet can increase the risks of side effects. If you experience an increase in the severity of your symptoms while being on the prescribed dose, please consult your doctor for re-evaluation.
