Introduction

Calmese 2mg Injection is a prescription medicine used to treat status epilepticus, a medical emergency when a prolonged seizure occurs or continuous seizure occurs within a span of five minutes, even before the person recovers from the previous one.

Calmese 2mg Injection is also used to induce anesthesia before an investigation or a surgical procedure. It relieves anxiety and muscle tension, thus making the person comfortable before the operation or investigation procedure. This medicine is given as an injection under the supervision of a healthcare professional. Calmese 2mg Injection may be given into your vein (intravenously) or into one of your muscles (intramuscularly). The recommended dose depends on your age, weight and why it is being used for you. It is usually used for a short-term only owing to its high habit-forming potential.

Side effects of this medicine include drowsiness, sedation, tiredness, confusion, depression, muscle weakness. It may also cause dizziness and sleepiness, so do not drive or do anything that requires mental focus until you know how this medicine affects you. It is important to inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to conceive or breastfeeding before taking this medicine.

Driving

Calmese 2mg Injection may decrease alertness, affect your vision or make you feel sleepy and dizzy. Do not drive if these symptoms occur.
Kidney
CAUTION
Calmese 2mg Injection should be used with caution in patients with severe kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Calmese 2mg Injection may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
However, inform your doctor if you have any underlying kidney disease.
Liver
CAUTION
Calmese 2mg Injection should be used with caution in patients with severe liver disease. Dose adjustment of Calmese 2mg Injection may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
Use of Calmese 2mg Injection is not recommended in patients with severe liver disease.

What if you forget to take Calmese Injection?

If you miss a dose of Calmese 2mg Injection, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

No, Calmese 2mg Injection is not an opioid. It belongs to the benzodiazepine group of medicines and is used for short-term treatment (2-4 weeks) only. It is a habit-forming medicine and can make a person physically and psychologically dependent.

It can also cause panic attacks, dizziness or feeling faint, memory loss, hallucinations, feeling stiff and unable to move easily, feeling very warm, convulsions (sudden uncontrolled shaking or jerking of the body) and oversensitivity to light, sound and touch.

Q. Does Calmese 2mg Injection cause weight gain?

The effect of Calmese 2mg Injection on weight gain or loss is not known.

Q. Does Calmese 2mg Injection cause depression?

If you have a history of depression then it may increase the risk of developing depression again. Calmese 2mg Injection should not be used alone in depressed patients because it may cause suicidal tendencies in such patients.

Q. My old uncle is taking Calmese 2mg Injection for sleeplessness associated with anxiety. Can it affect his memory?

Though it is rare, but use of Calmese 2mg Injection can cause memory impairment, which may be more apparent in old age patients.
