Elevated levels may occur when abnormal plasma cells produce excessive amounts of lambda light chains, as seen in conditions such as multiple myeloma, MGUS, and AL amyloidosis. High free lambda light chain levels may indicate plasma cell proliferation, immune activation, or reduced kidney clearance. Low levels are less common and are usually not clinically significant on their own. However, abnormal results alone do not confirm a specific diagnosis and should always be interpreted together with symptoms, medical history, imaging studies, and additional laboratory investigations.
