Telcon 40mg Tablet

Overview

Introduction

Telcon 40mg Tablet is a medicine used to treat high blood pressure and heart disease. Lowering blood pressure helps to prevent future heart attack and stroke. This medicine is also effective in preserving kidney function in patients with diabetes.

Telcon 40mg Tablet can be prescribed either alone or in combination with other medicines. It may be taken with or without food during the day or at night. However, try to take it at the same time each day to get the most benefit. It is important to continue taking it regularly even if you feel well or if your blood pressure is controlled. Most people with high blood pressure do not feel ill, but if you stop taking this medicine, your condition could get worse. This is a widely used medicine and is considered safe for long-term use.

Making some changes in your lifestyle will also help lower your blood pressure. These may include regular exercise, losing weight, smoking cessation, reducing alcohol intake, and reducing the amount of salt in your diet as advised by your doctor. This medicine is tolerated well by most patients and has few side effects. Dizziness, particularly after the first dose, is known to occur in some people. This may be associated with headache. Let your doctor know if these side effects bother you or do not go away. No weight gain has been seen with the regular use of this medicine.

Before taking this medicine, let your doctor know if you have any kidney or liver problems. Pregnant or breastfeeding mothers should also consult their doctor before taking it. Your doctor may check your kidney function, blood pressure and potassium levels in your blood at regular intervals while you are taking this medicine.

Dr. Sfurti Mann

Voglibose and pioglitazone both are medications used for diabetes but there mechanism of action is different and so are their side effects. Voglibose acts to reduce post prandial blood glucose whereas pioglitazone improves insulin sensitivity and improves glycemic control. Voglibose causes gastric side effects and sometimes affects the liver whereas pioglitazone should not be given to patients with heart ailments as it can worsen heart failure.

Do you have any questions related to Telcon 40mg Tablet ?

FAQs

Q. Should Telcon be taken in the morning or at night?

Telcon is generally recommended to be taken once daily, either in the morning or in the evening. Consider taking it at the same time each day as it will help you to remember taking it.

Q. How long does it take for Telcon to work?

You may see an improvement within a few days. But, the maximum benefit can be seen within 4-8 weeks of starting treatment.

Q. My blood pressure is now controlled with Telcon. Can I stop taking it now?

No, do not stop taking Telcon without consulting your doctor even if your blood pressure is controlled. Stopping it suddenly may increase your blood pressure which could be detrimental for you. Telcon does not cure high blood pressure but controls it. So, you may have to take the medicine life long. Talk to your doctor if you have any concerns.

Q. If I have some kidney problem, can I take Telcon? Can it further deteriorate my kidney function?

You can take Telcon if it has been advised by your doctor. Your doctor may ask you to get regular tests done (potassium and creatinine levels) in order to monitor your kidney function. Telcon may cause worsening of kidney function, therefore you should contact your doctor in case you notice swelling in your feet, ankles, or hands or unexplained weight gain.

Q. I am overweight and doctor has prescribed me Telcon for blood pressure control. I am bothered that Telcon can increase my weight. Is it true?

No, do not worry since Telcon is not known to cause weight gain. In fact in animal studies Telcon has been found to decrease fat tissue.

Q. Does Telcon affect blood glucose levels in diabetics?

Telcon may lower blood glucose levels in patients of diabetes. Therefore, a regular check on blood glucose levels is essential. Talk to your doctor if you are a diabetic because the dose of insulin or antidiabetic medicines may need adjustment.

Q. Can the use of Telcon cause hyperkalemia (increased potassium level in blood)?

Yes, Telcon can cause hyperkalemia (increased potassium level in blood). A regular monitoring of blood potassium levels may be advised by your doctor while taking this medicine.

Q. Does Telcon work by causing excessive urination?

No, Telcon does not cause excessive urination and does not belong to diuretic class of medicines. Telcon works by relaxing the blood vessels by blocking the effect of a substance known as angiotensin II. Angiotensin II causes blood vessels to narrow which causes an increase in blood pressure.

Q. Do I need to follow any precautions if I take ibuprofen and Telcon together?

If you are taking ibuprofen and Telcon together, you should continuously keep a check on your blood pressure and kidney function. Telcon may enhance the side effects of ibuprofen which may further cause water retention, especially in patients taking Telcon for heart failure. Ibuprofen may interfere with working of Telcon and decrease its efficiency at lowering blood pressure.
