Introduction

Staha 5mg Tablet belongs to a class of drugs known as vasodilators. This medicine is used for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure). It is used in combination with other medicines in severe or life-threatening hypertension.

Staha 5mg Tablet works by relaxing and enlarging certain small blood vessels so that blood flows through them more easily. It is usually prescribed with other medicines to minimise the undesirable effects of this medicine.

It may be taken with or without food, preferably at the same time, each day. You must follow your doctor’s instructions exactly, taking all the prescribed medicines, in the right amounts, each day. These medicines will help keep your blood pressure down. Do not skip any doses. If you forget a dose of Staha 5mg Tablet, wait until it is time for your next dose, then continue with your regular schedule. Do not stop taking it, or any of your other high blood pressure medicines, without checking with your doctor.

The medicine generally safe and suitable for most people but has some potential side effects on few others. The most common side effects includes edema (swelling), excessive hair growth on face, hair discoloration, and increased heart rate. Talk to your doctor if you are bothered by side effects or they do not resolve.

It increases the flow of blood and oxygen to the heart and other organs by relaxing blood vessels, thereby, lowering your blood pressure. If your blood pressure is controlled you are less at risk of having a heart attack, stroke, or kidney problems. It must be taken regularly as prescribed to be effective. You do not usually feel any direct benefit from taking this medicine, but it works in the long term to keep you well.

Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them

How to cope with side effects?

The occurrence of side effects varies from person to person. The following are a few ways of dealing with some of the common side effects. However, consult your doctor if these persist.

  • Coping with Excessive hair growth on face
    Speak to your doctor as they may be able to help you by reducing your dose or by prescribing an alternate medicine. If you are very bothered by this side effect, do these at home to remove or lighten the hair such as shaving, waxing, plucking, using hair removal creams or bleaching.
  • Coping with Hair discoloration
    Speak to your doctor about ways of preventing or reducing this side effect if it bothers you. They may be able to reduce your dose or prescribe you alternate medicines. If your condition gets worse or does not improve, ask about any hair products which can be used along with this medicine.
  • Coping with Increased heart rate
    Breathe in slowly through your nostrils and then breathe out through your mouth. Repeat this until you feel calm. Try sitting cross-legged and drink plenty of water. Splash cold water or apply a cold towel or ice pack on your face for 20-30 seconds. It is important to make sure that you are not taking more than the prescribed dose. As a preventive measure, you should limit the amount of alcohol you drink and give up smoking. Also, cut down the amount of coffee, tea or cola you drink. In general, being physically active and eating a healthy well-balanced diet is good advice for any heart condition. If the condition does not improve, consult your doctor as they may need to change you to a different type of medicine.

How to use Staha Tablet

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Staha 5mg Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

How Staha Tablet works

Staha 5mg Tablet belongs to the class of medicine known as pottasium channel openers. It is an antihypertensive peripheral vasodilator. It works by opening adenosine triphosphate-sensitive potassium channels in vascular smooth muscle cells. This helps to dilate the arteries (blood vessels) to increase the blood flow and to decrease the blood pressure.

Staha 5mg Tablet is safe to use during breastfeeding. Human studies suggest that the drug does not pass into the breastmilk in a significant amount and is not harmful to the baby.
Driving
UNSAFE
Staha 5mg Tablet may decrease alertness, affect your vision or make you feel sleepy and dizzy. Do not drive if these symptoms occur.
Kidney
SAFE IF PRESCRIBED
Staha 5mg Tablet is safe to use in patients with kidney disease. No dose adjustment of Staha 5mg Tablet is recommended.
However, talk to your doctor if you have any underlying kidney disease. Regular monitoring of blood pressure is recommended for better dose adjustment.
Liver
CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR
There is limited information available on the use of Staha 5mg Tablet in patients with liver disease. Please consult your doctor.

What if you forget to take Staha Tablet?

If you miss a dose of Staha 5mg Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

Q. What is Staha and what is it used for?

Staha belongs to a class of medicines known as potassium channel openers. It helps in the removal of potassium from the walls of arteries resulting in widening of the arteries. This decreases the workload of the heart to pump the blood. It also improves the blood and oxygen supply to your heart muscle. It is prescribed to patients of stable angina (heart-related chest pain) who cannot take other medicines (beta blockers, calcium channel antagonist) meant for angina.

Q. Can I stop taking Staha?

No, you should not stop taking Staha without speaking to your doctor first. If you stop Staha suddenly, your anginal pain may recur. Talk to your doctor if you are experiencing any side effects.

Q. How long does it take Staha to start working?

Staha starts working after about an hour of taking the medicine, but full benefits may be seen only after 4 to 5 days.

Q. For how long do I need to continue Staha?

Continue taking your medicine for as long as your doctor tells you. Staha is generally prescribed for a long term. You may even need to take it for the rest of your life.

Q. What if somebody accidentally takes excess of Staha?

He or she should be taken to the hospital immediately. The person may experience signs of low blood pressure, which include feeling weak or dizzy. He or she may also experience irregular or fast heart beat.

Q. Can I take Staha if I am taking aspirin?

You should avoid taking Staha and aspirin together. Taking these two medicines together increases the risk of ulcer or bleeding in the mouth, stomach or intestine. Immediately consult your doctor, If you notice blood in your stool or vomit while using Staha.

Q. Who should not use Staha?

People who are allergic to Staha or any of its ingredients should avoid using this medicine. Also, patients who have heart problems such as cardiogenic shock or left ventricular failure with low filling pressure or cardiac decompensation or have a build-up of fluid in the lungs (pulmonary edema) should not use Staha. Additionally, patients taking medicines to treat erectile dysfunction (e.g., sildenafil, tadalafil, and vardenafil) or medicines to treat pulmonary hypertension (e.g., riociguat) should not use the medication. Your blood pressure may be affected if these medicines are taken with Staha or if you have low blood volume.

Q. Can Staha affect my sex life?

No, Staha does not affect your sex life. However, it is not recommended to take medicines used to treat erectile dysfunction (e.g., sildenafil or tadalafil) or premature ejaculation (e.g., vardenafil or dapoxetine) while taking Staha. Taking them together can lead to a serious drop in your blood pressure.
