Product introduction

Shingrix Vaccine is highly effective in preventing shingles (herpes zoster) and its complications, including postherpetic neuralgia, a persistent nerve pain that can occur after a shingles rash has healed. It is generally administered by a healthcare professional in the muscle of the upper arm. It is administered as a series of two doses, typically given two to six months apart. Make sure to get both the doses for maximum benefit.

Common side effects of Shingrix Vaccine include redness, pain, and swelling at the site of injection, muscle pain, fatigue, headache, shivering, fever, and gastrointestinal symptoms. These side effects are temporary and usually resolve on their own in some time. Consult your doctor if they bother you or get worse. Your doctor may be able to suggest ways to cope with the side effects.

Do not receive Shingrix Vaccine if you have a known history of allergic reaction to this medicine or any of the components present in the product. Let your doctor know before you receive this vaccine if you have a severe infection with a high temperature (fever). Let your doctor also know if you have a bleeding problem or bruise easily. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult their doctors before receiving this vaccine.

Benefits of Shingrix Injection

Prevention of Herpes zoster
Herpes zoster (shingles) is a rash with blisters that is often painful. Shingles usually occurs on one side of the body and can last for several weeks. It is caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox. Vaccination is the best way to prevent shingles and postherpetic neuralgia (PHN), the most common complication associated with shingles. Your doctor or nurse will give you this medicine. Kindly do not self administer.

How Shingrix Injection works

Shingrix Vaccine helps develop immunity against varicella zoster virus (VZV) by initiating a mild infection. This type of infection does not cause illness but stimulates the body's immune system to produce antibodies (proteins) to protect against any future infections.

Quick tips

  • Individuals who are 50 years or older should consider getting the Shingrix Vaccine to protect themselves against shingles. Even if one has had shingles before, the vaccine can help prevent future outbreaks.
  • The vaccine is administered as a two-dose series, with the second dose given 2 to 6 months after the first. Make sure to complete both doses for full protection against shingles.
  • Shingrix Vaccine is highly effective at preventing shingles and its complications, including postherpetic neuralgia (PHN), a painful condition that can occur after shingles.
  • Like any other vaccine, Shingrix Vaccine can cause side effects such as soreness at the injection site, muscle pain, fatigue, and headache. However, these side effects are usually mild and resolve on their own within a few days.
  • Before taking the vaccine, inform your doctor if you have any other kind of infection or high fever.
