Overview

Introduction of Rabimed Tablet EC

Rabimed 20 mg Tablet EC is a prescription medicine used for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (acid-reflux) and peptic ulcer disease.

Rabimed 20 mg Tablet EC is also used for treatment and prophylaxis of reflux oesophagitis, in combination with other medicines for eradication of Helicobacter pylori infection and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. This medicine works by reducing the amount of acid in the stomach which helps to provide relief in acid related indigestion and heartburn.
It is taken by mouth one hour before the meal, preferably in the morning. Take this medicine in dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Before taking this medicine it is better to inform doctor if you are suffering from any liver or kidney disease as dose of your medicine needs to be adjusted. It is better to not take this medicine along with an antacid, you may try to take it two hours before or after taking this medicine.

It is well tolerated and safe medicine with a very low incidence of any harmful effects. However, there can be side effects headache, abdominal pain, flatulence, dry mouth, rash and nausea. This medicine may cause diarrhea, so it is better to take plenty of fluids while taking this medicine as it may help to prevent dehydration. However, it is better to consult doctor if you get watery diarrhea with fever or stomach pain that does not go away. Remember long term use of this medicine may lead to deficiency of vitamin B12 and magnesium. This medicine may cause an increased risk for osteoporosis related fractures of the hip, wrist or spine when used for a longer time. Thus, taking adequate supplements of calcium and magnesium can be helpful in such cases.

How to use Rabimed Tablet EC

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Rabimed 20 mg Tablet EC may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

How Rabimed Tablet EC works

Rabimed 20 mg Tablet EC is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI). It works by reducing the amount of acid in the stomach which helps in relief of acid related indigestion and heartburn.

Kidney
SAFE IF PRESCRIBED
Rabimed 20 mg Tablet EC is safe to use in patients with kidney disease. No dose adjustment of Rabimed 20 mg Tablet EC is recommended.
Liver
CAUTION
Rabimed 20 mg Tablet EC should be used with caution in patients with severe liver disease. Dose adjustment of Rabimed 20 mg Tablet EC may be needed. Please consult your doctor.

What if you miss a dose of Rabimed Tablet EC?

If you miss a dose of Rabimed 20 mg Tablet EC, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

    • Avoid taking hot tea, coffee, spicy food, and chocolate. Instead, have cold milk and cold coffee as these help neutralize the acid in the stomach.

Q. How long does it take for Rabimed to work?

Rabimed will start working in 2-3 hours after taking it. You should start feeling better in 2-3 days.

Q. What is the best time to take Rabimed?

It is best to take Rabimed before your breakfast. If you are taking two doses, take it in the morning and evening. Rabimed is more effective when it is taken 30 min before your food.

Q. Can I stop taking Rabimed if I feel better?

No, do not stop taking Rabimed before completing the full course of treatment. You will start to feel better before your treatment is complete.

Q. Does Rabimed cause bone problems?

Yes, long term use of Rabimed can cause thinning of bones, which is called osteoporosis. Rabimed decreases the calcium absorption leading to calcium deficiency, and increases the risk of bone fractures of hip, wrist or spine.

Q. How is Rabimed useful in the treatment of H. pylori infection?

Rabimed is used along with antibiotics for the treatment of H.Pylori infection. It works by decreasing stomach acid volume and decreasing breakdown and washout of antibiotics leading to an increased antibiotic concentration and tissue penetration. It also helps in the symptomatic relief by decreasing associated acidity, reflux, and heartburn.

Q. Can I take Rabimed with vitamin D?

Yes, vitamin D can be taken along with Rabimed. Vitamin D is generally advised to be taken as a supplement with Rabimed as its long-term use decreases the absorption of calcium and cause calcium deficiency. This can lead to osteoporosis (thinning of bones) and increase the risk of bone fractures like hip, wrist and spine fractures.

Q. Can long term use of Rabimed cause magnesium deficiency?

Long-term use of Rabimed can lower magnesium levels in patients taking multiple daily doses for a year or longer (at least 3 months). Get your magnesium levels checked at regular intervals. Tell your doctor if you experience seizures, dizziness, abnormal or fast heartbeat, jitteriness, jerking movements or shaking (tremors), muscle weakness, spasms of the hands and feet, cramps, muscle aches or spasm of the voice box.

Rabimed should be used as long as prescribed by your doctor. Rabimed is usually considered to be safe when taken in the recommended dose and duration.
