How to use Pionorm-M Tablet SR

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Pionorm-M 7.5mg/500mg Tablet SR is to be taken with food.
Pionorm-M 7.5mg/500mg Tablet SR may cause stomach upset if taken on empty stomach.

How Pionorm-M Tablet SR works

Pionorm-M 7.5mg/500mg Tablet SR is a combination of two antidiabetic medicines: Pioglitazone and metformin. Pioglitazone is a thiazolidinedione which works by increasing the body's sensitivity to insulin. Metformin is a biguanide which decreases the production and absorption of sugar in your body and allows better use of existing insulin. Together, they provide better control of blood sugar.

Pionorm-M Tablet SR related warnings

Taking metformin with alcohol can cause lactic acidosis and you may experience malaise, respiratory distress, slow or irregular heartbeat, sleepiness, stomach upset, or other unusual symptoms.
Pionorm-M 7.5mg/500mg Tablet SR may be unsafe to use during pregnancy.
Animal studies have shown adverse effects on the foetus, however, there are limited human studies. The benefits from use in pregnant women may be acceptable despite the risk. Please consult your doctor.
Pionorm-M 7.5mg/500mg Tablet SR is probably safe to use during lactation. Limited human data suggests that the drug does not represent a significant risk to the baby.
Your ability to drive may be affected if your blood sugar is low or high. If this happens, do not drive.
Pionorm-M 7.5mg/500mg Tablet SR should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Pionorm-M 7.5mg/500mg Tablet SR may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
Use of Pionorm-M 7.5mg/500mg Tablet SR is, however, not recommended in patients with severe kidney disease. Regular monitoring of kidney function test is advisable while you are taking this medicine.
Pionorm-M 7.5mg/500mg Tablet SR should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Dose adjustment of Pionorm-M 7.5mg/500mg Tablet SR may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
Pionorm-M 7.5mg/500mg Tablet SR is generally started with low dose in patients with mild to moderate liver disease and its use is not recommended in patients with severe liver disease.

  • Always carry some sugary food or fruit juice with you in case you experience hypoglycemia symptoms such as cold sweats, cool pale skin, tremor, and anxious feeling.
  • Your doctor may monitor your blood sugar level, kidney function, and liver function regularly while taking this medication.

Per day calorie intake should be between 1,500-1,800 calories with a proportion of 60:20:20 between carbohydrates, fats and proteins, respectively, take Healthy fats from raw nuts, olive oil, fish oils, flax seeds etc, fresh Fruits and vegetables,whole grains, legumes and other high-fibre diet, avoid refined carbohydrate diet,if u eat non veg u can take fish, poultry egg white, pulses whereas avoid red meat, avoid saturated fats like ghee, butter, avoid sweet foods, take small but frequent meals, supplements containing omega 3 fatty acids like Multivite fm omega capsule Quit smoking, avoid too much alcohol intake, find ways to reduce stress like meditation, yoga, etc. Moderate exercise daily like a brisk walk for 1 km. hope it helps
