It is better to take Olzep 5mg capsule empty stomach (1 hour before food or 2 hours after food).

Omeprazole(5 mg)


Olzep 5mg capsule is used to treat frequent persistent heartburn, gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD; flow of bitter fluid into mouth, and upper abdominal/ epigastric pain); and other diseases caused by excessive stomach acid. It is also used to help in the healing of the food pipe (esophagus) when it gets damaged by excessive stomach acid ( erosive esophagitis). 

How it works

Olzep 5mg capsule belongs to class of medications called proton pump inhibitors. It blocks the activity of the proton pumps in the stomach wall that produce acid, thereby reducing the amount of acid produced in the stomach.

Expert advice for OLZEP

  • Take omeprazole tablets one hour before a meal.
  • Do not chew or crush the tablets because the tablets are coated with enteric coating which stops the medicine from being broken down by the acid in your stomach. It is important not to damage the tablets.
  • When using Omeprazole long-term, take a calcium  with vitamin D supplement daily to prevent bone loss.
  • Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for a forgotten dose.
  • Do not start or continue the omeprazole tablets and consult your doctor If  you are allergic to omeprazole or any of the other ingredients of this medicine and other proton pump inhibitor medicines (e.g, pantoprazole, lanzoprazole, rabeprazole, esomeprazole).

Q. Is omeprazole the same as Prilosec/Omez/Omezol or Ocid? 
Yes. These are the brand names for omeprazole.
Q. What is omez?
Omez contains omeprazole. It is a proton pump inhibitor which suppresses acid production in stomach. It is not antacid which reacts and neutralizes acid. It is not an antibiotic as it does not kill bacteria.
Q. Is omeprazole gluten free?
