Neugaba ER 75 Tablet

Overview

Introduction of Neugaba Tablet ER

Neugaba ER 75 Tablet is a medicine used to treat epilepsy, anxiety, and nerve pain. It works in different ways to stop seizures (epilepsy) and to block pain messages reaching the brain (nerve pain).

You can take Neugaba ER 75 Tablet with or without food and it may be used for a short time or long-term. If you have epilepsy you may be taking it for many years. If you have nerve pain or anxiety the treatment may be shorter. The dose depends on what you are taking it for and will be adjusted for you and your condition, probably starting at a low dose and working up to one which suits you. Follow your doctor’s instructions. Take this medicine at the same time(s) each day to get the most benefit. It takes at least a few weeks for the medicine to work. Continue taking it until your doctor tells you to stop. If you have epilepsy, missing doses may trigger a seizure. You should avoid drinking alcohol as it may increase some side effects. You may also get side effects after stopping the treatment.

The side effects of Neugaba ER 75 Tablet are usually mild and go away by themselves. The most common ones are feeling sleepy, dizziness, and headache. Other side effects include an increased appetite, weight gain, difficulty concentrating, mood changes, blurred vision, confusion, and swelling in your hands and feet. There are many others, some serious, but most do not need medical attention. Talk to your doctor about potential side effects and ways you might prevent or cope with them. A small number of people taking the medicine have had suicidal thoughts.

Before taking the medicine you should tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding. Neugaba ER 75 Tablet can usually be mixed safely with other medicines but some drugs (including antacids and alcohol) do affect the way it works and can increase the chance of side effects. This medicine is not suitable for children under the age of 18 and can be addictive.

FAQs

Q. What is Neugaba and what is it used for?

Neugaba belongs to anticonvulsants class of medicines. It is used to treat seizures. It is also helpful in treating nerve pain (neuropathic pain) which could be due to diabetes, shingles, or injury. It is also used in fibromyalgia (a long-lasting condition that may cause pain, muscle stiffness and tenderness, tiredness, and difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep).

Q. Neugaba has varied roles, does it work in the same way for each disease?

No, Neugaba works in different ways for different diseases. In epilepsy, it stops seizures by reducing the abnormal electrical activity in the brain. In nerve pain, it blocks pain messages travelling from brain to spine.

Q. I have been prescribed Neugaba for pain due to shingles. When can I expect relief from pain?

For Neugaba to work, the medicine requires time. It may require a few weeks to see full benefits. However, people have felt relief from pain after a week of starting Neugaba.

Q. How long do I need to take Neugaba?

Duration for the use of Neugaba depends on the condition for which you are taking this medicine. If you are taking it for epilepsy, which if controlled by Neugaba, you may have to continue it for years. If you are taking it for pain, it is likely that once your symptoms have gone you will have to continue taking it for several months to ensure stopping the problem from coming back.

Q. Is it necessary to continue taking Neugaba even if I feel fine?

Even if you feel fine, you should not stop Neugaba. If you are taking it for epilepsy and suddenly stop its consumption, you may have seizures that will not stop. If you are taking it for any other reason you may experience anxiety, difficulty in sleeping, feeling sick, pain, and sweating. These can be prevented if dose of Neugaba is reduced gradually.

Q. Is Neugaba addictive?

Addiction to Neugaba is more common in people who take it for unauthorized reasons. Taking more than the recommended doses and taking it for long periods of time may also cause addiction. In addition to that, any person who has a history of drug abuse should never use Neugaba. In case you feel you are becoming physically dependent on Neugaba, inform your doctor immediately.

Q. Can I take diazepam and Neugaba together?

Yes, Neugaba and diazepam can be used together but there might be a chance of increased side effects, since both act on the brain to depress excessive activity.

Q. Can Neugaba and gabapentin be taken together for fibromyalgia?

Yes, they can be used together but chances of side effects may be higher with their combined use.
