Nalidys Tablet


Overview

Introduction

Nalidys Tablet is a combination of two antibiotics that effectively treats diarrhea and dysentery. It kills the microorganisms to treat the infection.

Nalidys Tablet is a prescription medicine that can be taken with or without food. Take the medicine in the dose and duration advised by your doctor. Do not consume more than the recommended dose, as this may have harmful effects on your body. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. The treatment must be completed even if you feel better.

Nalidys Tablet may lead to some side effects such as nausea, dryness of mouth, stomach upset, etc. To overcome any such side effects, it is advised to eat a healthy balanced diet and drink plenty of fluid. If any of the side effects get aggravated, contact your doctor immediately. In cases of severe liver or kidney disease it is advised to consult your doctor before you start with the treatment. It is strictly advised not to drive or operate heavy machinery while you are on the treatment.

How to use Nalidys Tablet

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Nalidys Tablet is to be taken with food.
Taking it empty stomach can cause stomach upset.

How Nalidys Tablet works

Nalidys Tablet is a combination of two antibiotics: Nalidixic Acid and Metronidazole. Nalidixic Acid works by preventing the bacterial cells from dividing and repairing, thereby killing the bacteria. Metronidazole kills parasites and anaerobic bacteria that cause infections by damaging their DNA. Together, they treat your infection effectively.

Alcohol
UNSAFE
Consuming alcohol while taking Nalidys Tablet may cause symptoms such as flushing, increased heart beat, nausea, thirst, chest pain and low blood pressure (Disulfiram reaction).
Pregnancy
CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR
Nalidys Tablet may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Although there are limited studies in humans, animal studies have shown harmful effects on the developing baby. Your doctor will weigh the benefits and any potential risks before prescribing it to you. Please consult your doctor.
Lactation
CAUTION
Nalidys Tablet should be used with caution during breatfeeding. Breastfeeding should be held until the treatment of the mother is completed and the drug is eliminated from her body.
If a single dose of Nalidys Tablet is used, it is recommended to hold breastfeeding for 12-24 hours to allow the removal of the drug.
Driving
UNSAFE
Nalidys Tablet may cause side effects which could affect your ability to drive.
Nalidys Tablet may make you feel sleepy, dizzy, confused. You may have hallucinations, fits (convulsions) or temporary eyesight problems (such as blurred or double vision) affecting your ability to drive.
Kidney
CAUTION
Nalidys Tablet should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Nalidys Tablet may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
Regular monitoring of kidney function tests is advised if this medicine is to be taken for a long time.
Liver
CAUTION
Nalidys Tablet should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Dose adjustment of Nalidys Tablet may be needed. Please consult your doctor.

  • Notify your doctor if you feel pain in your tendons, numbness, or tingling sensations.
  • Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to conceive or breastfeeding.

All information will be used to determine exact underlying cause of problem. Depending upon cause will give opinion and prescribe you treatment. At time may ask you relevant investigations if necessary. Patient may need antibiotics and/or other prescription drugs. No, do not stop taking Nalidys and complete the full course of treatment even if you are feeling better. Your symptoms may improve before the infection is completely cured.

Q. What if I miss my dose?

Take Nalidys as soon as you remember it. However, do not take it if it's almost time for your next dose. Also, do not take an extra dose to make up for your missed dose.
