Metrinadzole Infusion

Prescription Required

Overview

Introduction

Metrinadzole Infusion is an antibiotic medicine that helps your body fight infections caused by bacteria and parasites. It is used to treat infections of the liver, stomach, intestines, vagina, brain, heart, lungs, bones and skin.

Metrinadzole Infusion helps prevent an infection after surgery. It is also used in the treatment of dental infections, leg ulcers and pressure sores. This injection is administered under the supervision of a healthcare professional. It should be taken at the same time each day to get the most benefit. Your symptoms may get better after a short time but do not stop taking it until you have finished a full course of treatment, even if you feel well. If you stop taking it early, some bacteria may survive, and the infection may come back. Do not drink any alcohol while taking this medicine, and for a few days after stopping it. Otherwise, you may get unpleasant side effects like nausea, vomiting and stomach pain.

The most common side effects of this medicine are muscle pain (myalgia), dryness in the mouth, swelling and heaviness of tongue (glossitis), and painful swelling and sores in the mouth (stomatitis). These are usually mild but let your doctor know if they bother you or last more than a few days. You can try using sugarless candies or lozenges to overcome any dryness or metallic taste in the mouth.

Before using this medicine, inform your doctor if you are allergic to any medicine or have any kidney or liver problems or any disease of the nervous system. Your doctor may change the dose or prescribe a different medicine. This medicine should not be taken if you are pregnant or breastfeeding unless it is absolutely necessary and prescribed by your doctor. It may cause unusual results with certain medical tests. Therefore, tell any doctor who treats you that you are using this medicine.

Common side effects of Metrinadzole

  • Muscle pain
  • Dryness in mouth
  • Glossitis (tongue inflammation)
  • Stomatitis (Inflammation of the mouth)

How to cope with side effects?

The occurrence of side effects varies from person to person. The following are a few ways of dealing with some of the common side effects. However, consult your doctor if these persist.

  • Coping with Muscle pain
Tell your doctor straight away because sometimes the muscle pain may be a sign of something more serious. A lower dosage or a different medication might be needed. Try to relax the cramping muscle by stretching it and holding the stretch. You might massage the muscle or apply a heat pad to the area after stretching. Avoid exercising too much. Stay well-hydrated. Do not take over-the-counter pain relievers unless the doctor prescribes it. Your doctor may also suggest taking supplements, such as calcium, magnesium oxide or potassium oxide depending on your needs.
  • Coping with Dryness in mouth
Keep a drink available that you can sip through the day. Rinse your mouth with warm salted water and chew sugarless gum or hard candy. Try breathing through your nose more often than your mouth. Avoid caffeinated beverages, smoking and alcohol because they can make your condition worse. Use lip balm if your lips are also dry. Try to avoid foods that are acidic (like lemons), spicy, salty or sugary. If this side effect bothers you or does not go away, talk to your doctor about artificial saliva products or other suitable treatments.
