Hycamtin 1mg Tablet can be taken with or without food, but better to have it at the same time every day. Your doctor will decide what dose is necessary and how often you need to take it. This will depend on what you are being treated for and may change from time to time. You should take it exactly as your doctor has advised. Taking it in the wrong way or taking too much can cause very serious side effects. It may take several weeks or months for you to see or feel the benefits but do not stop taking it unless your doctor tells you to.

The most common side effects of this medicine include tiredness, vomiting, weakness, nausea, and abdominal pain. This medicine may reduce the number of blood cells (decrease red blood and white blood cells) in your blood, thereby, increasing the susceptibility to infections. Inform your doctor if you notice fever, chills, sore throat, and severe diarrhea. Regular blood tests are required to check your blood cells along with heart, liver, and blood uric acid levels. It is advised to stay hydrated while taking this medicine, to overcome diarrhea.

Before taking it, tell your doctor if you have heart disease, liver, or kidney problems or are taking any medicines to treat infections. Many other medicines can affect, or be affected by, this medicine so let your healthcare team know all medications you are using. This medicine is not recommended during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. The use of effective contraception by both males and females during treatment is important to avoid pregnancy.

It usually spreads to the pelvis and stomach. Hycamtin 1mg Tablet kills or stops the growth of cancer cells and also prevents the multiplication of cancer cells. It is an effective medicine but has some side effects that may be bothersome. Consult your doctor to know about ways that can help you avoid these side effects.

Swallow it whole. Do not chew, crush or break the tablet.
It may cause diarrhea. Drink plenty of fluids and inform your doctor If you experience more than three episodes of diarrhoea per day while having treatment with this medicine.
Do not drive or operate machinery as Hycamtin 1mg Tablet may cause tiredness, drowsiness or weakness.
Use a reliable contraceptive method to prevent pregnancy while you are taking this medicine.
Your doctor may get regular blood tests done to monitor your blood cells during treatment with this medicine.
Inform your doctor immediately if you notice any signs of infection such as fever, sore throat, rash or severe diarrhea.

Breast feeding

Hycamtin 1mg Tablet is unsafe to use during breastfeeding. Data suggests that the drug may cause toxicity to the baby.

Driving

CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR

It is not known whether Hycamtin 1mg Tablet alters the ability to drive. Do not drive if you experience any symptoms that affect your ability to concentrate and react. Please consult your doctor.
Hycamtin 1mg Tablet can make you feel tired and this may affect your ability to drive.

Kidney

CAUTION

Hycamtin 1mg Tablet should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dose adjustment may be needed.
Use of Hycamtin 1mg Tablet is not recommended in patients with end-stage kidney disease.

Liver

SAFE IF PRESCRIBED

Hycamtin 1mg Tablet is probably safe to use in patients with liver disease. Limited data suggest dose adjustment may not be needed.

Taking Hycamtin with any of the following medicines can modify the effect of either of them and cause some undesirable side effects

Avoid Filgrastim within 24 hours before and 24 hours after the last dose of Topotecan.
