Flucyto 500mg Tablet should be taken in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. It should be taken with or without food, preferably at a fixed time. Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

Some people may experience some side effects like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and skin rash. Inform your doctor if these side effects persist for a longer duration. Please consult your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to conceive, or breastfeeding.

Interaction with drugs

Taking Flucyto with any of the following medicines can modify the effect of either of them and cause some undesirable side effects

Flucyto 500mg Tablet is used to treat serious fungal infections such as candidiasis (a fungal infection caused by an overgrowth of the yeast Candida that commonly affects the mouth, throat, vagina, skin), cryptococcosis (a fungal infection in your lungs, brain, other parts of your body), chromoblastomycosis (a chronic fungal infection of the skin subcutaneous tissue), some forms of aspergillosis. Doctors usually prescribe Flucyto 500mg Tablet together with another antifungal, such as amphotericin B, to make treatment more effective, to lower the risk of resistance.

Who should not take Flucyto 500mg Tablet?

People should not take Flucyto 500mg Tablet if they are allergic to it, are breastfeeding, have a known enzyme deficiency called dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase (DPD) deficiency, are taking certain medicines that block this enzyme.

Serious side effects of Flucyto 500mg Tablet include severe allergic reaction (swelling, rash, difficulty breathing), unusual bleeding infections (which may signal bone marrow suppression), severe abdominal pain, jaundice (yellow skin eyes), sudden chest pain, confusion hallucinations. If you develop any of these symptoms, seek immediate medical attention.

Can Flucyto 500mg Tablet affect my blood cells?

Yes. Flucyto 500mg Tablet can reduce the number of white blood cells platelets, especially if your kidney function is poor or if your blood levels of the medicine get too high. This can make you more prone to infections bleeding, so your doctor will do regular blood tests.

Can men and women take Flucyto 500mg Tablet safely if planning a pregnancy?

No. Flucyto 500mg Tablet is partly converted into a substance called 5-fluorouracil, which can damage DNA and cause birth defects. Both men and women must use effective contraception during Flucyto 500mg Tablet treatment, for several months afterward to prevent harm to future pregnancies.
