Product introduction

Falcinil 100mg Tablet should be used in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Take it with food to decrease the risk of stomach upset. Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better.

Common side effects of this medicine include diarrhea, oral ulcers, headache, abdominal pain, cough, vomiting, nausea, weakness, weight loss, dizziness, and itching. Consult your doctor if these side effects persist for a longer duration. Inform your doctor if you ever had fits (seizures) or have any problems with your kidney, heart, or liver.

Falcinil 100mg Tablet is an antimalarial medicine and is used to treat malaria, a serious or life-threatening illness that is spread by a parasite that enters the human body by the bite of infected mosquitoes. It kills the infection causing parasite and stops further spread of the infection. Take it only as prescribed and refrain from taking any other medicines along with this medicine (unless advised by the doctor) as they may affect the absorption of this medicine. Do not use this medicine for treating any other condition without consulting your doctor.

Falcinil 100mg Tablet is an antiparasitic medication which treats malaria. It works by increasing the levels of haeme in the blood, a substance toxic to the malarial parasite. This kills the parasite and stops the infection from spreading.

  • Finish the prescribed course, even if you start to feel better. Stopping it early may make the infection come back and harder to treat.
  • Tips to reduce the chance of being bitten by mosquitoes:
    • Wear light-colored and covered clothing when you are outside after sunset.
    • Use insect repellent creams or sprays on parts of your body not covered by clothing.
    • Spray to kill any mosquitoes that may have entered rooms in spite of screening.
  • If you vomit within 1 hour of taking the tablets, take another dose. 
  • Your doctor may check your liver function regularly. Inform your doctor if you develop darkened urine or yellowing of the eyes or skin (jaundice).
  • Falcinil 100mg Tablet should be taken on an empty stomach.
  • Finish the prescribed course, even if you start to feel better. Stopping it early may make the infection come back and harder to treat.
  • Tips to reduce the chance of being bitten by mosquitoes:
    • Wear light-colored and covered clothing when you are outside after sunset.

Interaction with drugs

Taking Falcinil with any of the following medicines can modify the effect of either of them and cause some undesirable side effects
Severe

Purified Vi Polysaccharide Typhoid Vaccine (Injection Route)

Do not use Proguanil with Purified Vi Polysaccharide Typhoid Vaccine. If Proguanil is essential, ensure a gap of At least 3 days after discontinuing Purified Vi Polysaccharide Typhoid Vaccine. Please consult your doctor. Proguanil may reduce efficacy of Purified Vi Polysaccharide Typhoid Vaccine.
Moderate

Ritonavir (Oral Route)

Do not consume Ritonavir with Proguanil. If concurrent use is essential, your doctor may monitor the effects of Ritonavir and Proguanil and adjust the dose accordingly. Ritonavir may reduce blood levels of Proguanil.
Moderate

Topiramate (Oral Route)

Talk to your doctor if you notice any unusual symptoms. Topiramate may decrease the metabolism of Proguanil.

Pyrimethamine (Oral Route)

Talk to your doctor if you notice any unusual symptoms.Doctor may monitor your liver function.

Darunavir (Oral Route)

Do not consume Darunavir with Proguanil. If concurrent use is essential, your doctor may monitor the effects of Darunavir and Proguanil and adjust the dose accordingly. Darunavir may reduce efficacy of Proguanil.

If you forget a dose of Falcinil 100mg Tablet, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the next scheduled dose in the prescribed time. Do not double the dose to make up for the missed one as this may increase the chances of developing side effects.
No, do not stop taking Falcinil 100mg Tablet without consulting your doctor even if you are feeling better. Your symptoms may improve before the infection is completely cured. Therefore, for better and complete treatment, it is advised to continue your treatment for the prescribed duration.
Symptoms of malaria can develop as quickly as 7 days after you are being bitten by an infected mosquito. Typically, the time between being infected and the appearance of symptoms (incubation period) is 7 to 18 days. However, in some cases it can take up to one year for the symptoms to develop. Initial symptoms of malaria are flu-like which include feeling hot and shivery, muscle pains, vomiting, headaches and diarrhea.
Malaria can be avoided by taking the right approach towards prevention. Avoid mosquito bites by covering your arms and legs, using mosquito net and insect repellent. Check with your doctor whether you need to take malaria prevention tablets. If you do, make sure you take the right antimalarial tablets at the right dose, and finish the proper course of treatment. Seek immediate medical advice from the doctor if you have malaria symptoms.
