Q. Can I take paracetamol with Pheniramine?
Yes. This combination is especially useful when fever is associated with symptoms of allergy (like running nose, tearing of eyes etc). In fact, a number of commercial brands of this combination are available in the market.
Q. What is Pheniramine maleate used for?
Pheniramine is an antihistaminic agent and is used for treating allergic conditions like urticaria. It is also used for the treatment of an allergic eye condition (allergic conjunctivitis) in the form of eye drops.
Q. Is Pheniramine maleate good for a cold?
Pheniramine is effective in controlling symptoms of cold tearing of eyes, nasal stuffiness and discharge from the nose. All these symptoms are relieved by Pheniramine maleate.
Q. Can Pheniramine cause sleep?
Pheniramine has strong sleep-inducing effects. It is therefore not prescribed if a person is involved in any work that requires mental alertness.
Q. Can Pheniramine cause weight loss?
No. Pheniramine does not cause weight loss. Pheniramine, on the other hand, is a medication which is used for weight reduction in obese individuals.
Q. Why would allergy eye drops (naphazoline HCl and pheniramine maleate) make my eye dilate?
Pupils can be temporarily enlarged by the Naphazoline-Pheniramine combination eye drops. This is because Naphazoline that is used to decrease the congestion (redness) acts on the pupil to enlarge it. Dilation of the eye is not due to Pheniramine.
Q. Can Pheniramine raise blood pressure?
The Naphazoline-Pheniramine combination may result in increased blood pressure. Pheniramine by itself is not reported to cause a rise in the blood pressure.
Q. Are Pheniramine and chlorpheniramine same?
No. Pheniramine and Chlorpheniramine are very similar - they are close in chemical structure and both are older antihistaminics. Pheniramine does not contain chlorine in it whereas Chlorpheniramine does. However, both Pheniramine and Chlorpheniramine are used in allergic conditions.
Q. Can I take vitamin c with Pheniramine?
Yes. Vitamin C has a role in improving the immunity so it is given with Pheniramine for relieving the symptoms of common cold. A number of combinations of Paracetamol, Pheniramine and Vitamin C are available in the market.
Q. Does pheniramine raise blood pressure?
Pheniramine does not cause an increase in blood pressure. Please consult your doctor if you have increased blood pressure after taking pheniramine as it would require proper diagnosis and treatment.
