Introduction of Duron Tablet

Duron 100 mg Tablet is a medicine used to treat a variety of arrhythmias (abnormal heart rhythm). It restores normal heart rhythm by blocking abnormal electrical signals in the heart. It may prove to be effective even when other medicines have failed.

Duron 100 mg Tablet is also used for chronic (long term) preventive therapy of arrhythmia in patients of heart disease. Since this medicine has several possible side effects and interactions, it should strictly be used as advised by your doctor. It is generally used when no other medicine is suitable. Regular monitoring of side effects with the help of blood tests and physical examination is advised while using this medicine. Commonly seen side effects include nausea, constipation and taste change.

How to use Duron Tablet

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Duron 100 mg Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

It is not known whether it is safe to consume alcohol with Duron 100 mg Tablet. Please consult your doctor.
Duron 100 mg Tablet is unsafe to use during pregnancy as there is definite evidence of risk to the developing baby. However, the doctor may rarely prescribe it in some life-threatening situations if the benefits are more than the potential risks. Please consult your doctor.
Duron 100 mg Tablet is unsafe to use during breastfeeding. Data suggests that the drug may cause toxicity to the baby.
Duron 100 mg Tablet may cause blurring of your vision for a short time just after its use. Do not drive until your vision is clear.
Duron 100 mg Tablet is safe to use in patients with kidney disease. No dose adjustment of Duron 100 mg Tablet is recommended.
However, inform your doctor if you have an underlying kidney disease.
Duron 100 mg Tablet is probably safe to use in patients with liver disease. Limited data available suggests that dose adjustment of Duron 100 mg Tablet may not be needed in these patients. Please consult your doctor.

What if you miss a dose of Duron Tablet?

If you miss a dose of Duron 100 mg Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

Q. What should be avoided when taking Duron?

If you experience blurred vision while taking Duron, you should avoid driving or operating heavy machinery. You should not drink grapefruit juice and limit the use of alcohol while taking Duron. This is due to the fact that, taking alcohol may increase your chances of liver problems.

Q. Does Duron affect blood pressure?

Generally, oral tablet of Duron does not affect blood pressure. When given intravenously (in the vein) then as a side effect it may decrease the blood pressure. To prevent this Duron injection should be given slowly. Along with that, medicines which increase blood pressure (vasopressor agents) should be added to the infusion.

Q. Can you take Duron for long term?

Yes, Duron can be used for long term but should be cautiously used at the lowest effective maintenance dose. Regular monitoring of liver function, blood tests, thyroid, lung function, electrical activity of the heart and eye examination are important every six months after starting treatment.

Q. What are the warning signals of liver toxicity caused by Duron?

The warning signals of liver toxicity include yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice) feel tired, nausea, vomiting, dark-colored urine, pale-colored stools, loss of appetite, stomach pain, or high temperature. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience these symptoms.

Q. What kind of vision problems occur with Duron?

You may experience blurred vision, see halos in dazzling light, your eyes may become dry or sensitive to light. It can even cause permanent blindness and therefore you should consult your doctor in case you experience any such problems while on Duron.

Q. Can Duron cause any skin problems?

Duron may make your skin sensitive to sunlight. Exposed skin may turn blue-gray and may not return to normal even after you stop taking this medication. Hence, you should avoid unnecessary or prolonged exposure to sunlight or sunlamps. You should wear protective clothing, sunglasses, and sunscreen.

Q. How should Duron be taken?

Duron should be taken exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Usually, it is taken once or twice daily with or without food. It is to be swallowed whole with water and not to be cut or crushed.

Q. What if I forget to take Duron?

If you forget a dose of Duron take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is nearly time for the next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double the dose for a forgotten dose. Do not stop taking Duron without consulting your doctor. This is because, sudden discontinuation of the medicine may cause recurrence of irregular rhythm of heart or may be worse which can be dangerous.
