Pancreatin is used as a supplement in the treatment of pancreatic exocrine insufficiency (condition in which pancreatic juice is not produced enough to digest the food).

How it works

Pancreatin belongs to class of drugs called digestive enzymes. It contains enzymes like amylase, lipase and protease which help in digesting the food.

Dimethicone or dimeticone is used to treat dry, itchy skin or minor skin irritations, to relieve stomach pain, bloating and indigestion, hiccups, and infection of the scalp hair by the head louse.

How it works

Dimethicone belongs to class of medications called surface active substances. Dimethicone works by helping to release trapped wind by acting on inner lining of intestine; helps dry and itching skin by moisturizing the skin and kills the lice by affecting its physiological activity or by disrupting bodily water balance of lice.

• Drink plenty of water when taking pancreatin.
• Avoid taking pancreatin in higher than recommended dose if you are suffering from cystic fibrosis (a genetic disorder which characterized by formation of thick mucus in lungs, pancreas and intestine).
• Consult a doctor if you have long-standing history of frequent loose motions, abdominal cramps, blood in stools, gut obstruction or if you experience unusual abdominal symptoms when treated with pancreatin.
