How to use Choltran Tablet

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. It can be taken with or without food, but it is better to take Choltran 5mg Tablet at a fixed time.

How Choltran Tablet works

Choltran 5mg tablet is a bile acid binding agent. It removes bile acid from the body. The liver then produces more bile acids using cholesterol. Because the body use cholesterol to make bile acids, the levels of cholesterol in the body is lowered.

Expert advice for Choltran Tablet

  • Inform your doctor before taking the drug if you have phenylketonuria.
  • Children may require administration of folic acid with cholestyramine. Cholestyramine is not recommended for children less than 6 years of age.
  • Make sure you take other prescribed medicines atleast one hour before taking cholestyramine as the drugs may affect absorption of cholestyramine.
  • Avoid alcohol intake while taking this drug as it may increase the level of cholesterol in the blood.
  • Tell your doctor if you are or planning to become pregnant or are breastfeeding.

Missed Dosageuses

If you miss a dose of Cholestyramine, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
