Product introduction

Give Chimak Tablet DT either with or without food, but it is best to give it with food if it upsets your child’s stomach. It is generally given two to three times a day. Stick to the dose, time, and way prescribed by the doctor, as these depend on the severity of the infection, its type, and your child’s body weight and age. If your child vomits within 30 minutes of taking the medicine, repeat the dose when your child feels better. However, do not double the dose if it is time for the next dose.

Chimak Tablet DT can cause minor and temporary side effects such as nausea, vomiting, headache, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and mild skin rash. These side effects should ideally subside on their own. But if these side effects persist or become bothersome for your child, report them to the doctor immediately.

Tell your child’s doctor if your child has had any previous episodes of allergy, heart problems, blood disorders, birth defects, airway obstruction, lung anomaly, gastrointestinal problems, skin disorders, or kidney malfunction. Knowledge of your child’s medical history will help the doctor make dose alterations and plan your child’s overall treatment.

Uses of Chimak Tablet DT

Benefits of Chimak Tablet DT

Treatment of Bacterial infections
Chimak Tablet DT is a versatile antibiotic medicine which can be used to treat many different infections caused by bacteria. These include infections of the blood, brain, lungs, bones, joints, urinary tract, stomach and intestines. It can also be used to treat gum ulcers and other dental infections (abscesses), leg ulcers and pressure sores. It works by stopping the growth of the bacteria causing the infection.

This medicine usually makes you feel better quite quickly. However, you should continue taking it as long as it is prescribed even when you feel better, to make sure that all bacteria are killed and do not become resistant. This medicine is generally safe to use while pregnant or breastfeeding, but you should ask your doctor.
Treatment of Peptic ulcer disease
Chimak Tablet DT is also given to eradicate H. Pylori bacteria which is responsible for causing peptic ulcers in children. For peptic ulcers, it is generally given in combination with other medicines for around 10-14 days. Keep giving Chimak Tablet DT to your child as prescribed for it to be effective, even if the symptoms seem to disappear.

How to use Chimak Tablet DT

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Dissolve it in a glass of water before taking it. Chimak Tablet DT may be taken with or without food.

How Chimak Tablet DT works

Chimak Tablet DT is an antibiotic. It works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering (cell wall), which is essential for the survival of the bacteria. Chimak Tablet DT kills the infection-causing bacteria and prevents the infection from spreading without making them resistant to further treatment.

Quick tips

  • Complete the entire course of antibiotics without stopping the medicine in between. Doing so may cause the bacteria to multiply again, become resistant, or cause another infection.
  • Make sure your child drinks plenty of water if they develop diarrhea as a side effect.
  • Conditions like the common cold and flu are caused by viruses. Never give this medicine for such conditions.
  • Give Chimak Tablet DT to your child only for their current infection. Avoid storing the medicine for future use, as it is impossible to judge whether the same medicine would work for any future illnesses.
  • Diarrhea may occur as a side effect. Taking probiotics along with Chimak Tablet DT may help. Talk to your child’s doctor if you notice bloody stools or develop abdominal cramps.

Frequently asked questions

Giving your child Chimak Tablet DT for a long time can cause fungal infection (oral thrush) in the mouth and severe gastrointestinal infections (superinfections). Therefore, do not alter the dose and duration on your own and give Chimak Tablet DT to your child exactly as prescribed. Additionally, irregular treatment, repeated use, and misuse of Chimak Tablet DT can make the bacteria resistant.
Although rare, Chimak Tablet DT may cause some serious side effects such as persistent vomiting, kidney damage, allergies, diarrhea, and severe gastrointestinal infections. Always consult your child’s doctor for help in such a situation.
Chimak Tablet DT can sometimes interact with other medicines or substances. Tell your doctor about any other medicines your child is taking before starting Chimak Tablet DT. Also, check with your child’s doctor before giving any medicine to your child.
Antibiotics usually do not interfere with the ingredients in vaccines or cause a bad reaction in a child who has just been vaccinated. However, children taking antibiotics should not get vaccinated until they recover from the illness. As soon as your child feels better, the vaccine can be given.
In the common cold, the mucus changes its color and thickens up with time, but this does not mean that your child needs antibiotics. Common cold symptoms often last for 7-10 days. In case they fail to clear up within this duration, reach out to your child’s doctor for guidance.
No, do not give this medicine to your child in this case, as a high percentage of children with infectious mononucleosis develop a skin rash (erythematous rash) while taking Chimak Tablet DT.
Although it is rare, yes, Chimak Tablet DT can cause an allergic reaction and is harmful in patients with known allergies to penicillins. Get emergency medical help if you notice any signs of an allergic reaction, such as hives, difficulty breathing, swelling face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Yes, the use of Chimak Tablet DT can cause diarrhea. It is an antibiotic, and it kills the harmful bacteria; however, it also affects the helpful bacteria in your stomach or intestine and causes diarrhea. If diarrhea persists, talk to your child’s doctor about it.
No, do not stop giving Chimak Tablet DT and finish the full course of treatment even if the child feels better. Symptoms may improve before the infection is completely cleared.
