Product introduction

Ambrodil-XP Capsule is used to treat and prevent symptoms of asthma, bronchitis, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (a lung disorder in which airflow to the lung is blocked). It helps relax the muscles of the air passages, thus widening them and making them easier to breathe.

Ambrodil-XP Capsule can be taken with the food in the evening. Take it at the same time every day to get the most benefit. The dose and how often you take it depends on what you take it for. Your doctor will decide how much you need to improve your symptoms. Take this medicine for as long as it is prescribed for you. Do not miss even a single dose. If missed, take it as soon as you remember, or skip the missed dose and continue with regular dosing if it's almost time for the next dose. It does not work immediately or prevent the already-started breathing trouble; hence, always carry your medical inhaler for an emergency.

The most common side effects of this medicine include abdominal discomfort, abdominal distension, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation, and heartburn. If these bother you or appear serious, let your doctor know. There may be ways of reducing or preventing them. Generally, it is advised not to consume alcohol or do not smoke while on treatment.

Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you have kidney, liver, or heart-related disease. Your doctor should also know about all other medicines you are taking, as many may make this medicine less effective or change its effect. Before starting the treatment, inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Ambrodil-XP Capsule should be used with caution during breastfeeding. Breastfeeding should be held until the treatment of the mother is completed and the drug is eliminated from the body.

What if you forget to take Ambrodil-XP Capsule?

If you miss a dose of Ambrodil-XP Capsule, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

You have been prescribed Ambrodil-XP Capsule for prevention and treatment of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
It should be taken at the same time each day, preferably in the evening after food.
It does not work right away and should not be used to relieve sudden breathing problems. Always keep a fast-acting (rescue) inhaler with you.
Your doctor may take regular blood test to monitor potassium level and the level of this medicine in your body.
Notify your doctor if you have ever been diagnosed with kidney, liver or heart disease, or if you have a smoking history. Your dose may need to be adjusted.
Do not discontinue use without consulting your doctor, even if you feel better.

When should Ambrodil-XP Capsule be avoided?

Ambrodil-XP Capsule should be avoided in patients who are allergic to ambroxol, Ambrodil-XP Capsule, or theophylline. Along with that, patients suffering from low blood pressure, irregular heart beats or rhythm or history of heart attack, liver disease or kidney disorder should avoid taking Ambrodil-XP Capsule.

How should Ambrodil-XP Capsule be taken?

Ambrodil-XP Capsule should be taken strictly as advised by the doctor. To avoid an upset stomach it should be taken with food.

Is it okay to take furosemide along with Ambrodil-XP Capsule?

One should take proper caution if you are taking furosemide along with Ambrodil-XP Capsule. This is because the combined use of these medicines may decrease the levels of potassium. Hence, regular monitoring of potassium levels is required.

Does birth control pills have any effect on Ambrodil-XP Capsule?

If you are taking birth control pills, dose of Ambrodil-XP Capsule need to be reduced as birth control pills may interfere with clearance of Ambrodil-XP Capsule, increasing its levels and chances of side effects.

Is Ambrodil-XP Capsule the same as theophylline?

Ambrodil-XP Capsule comprises of theophylline-7 acetate and ambroxol which makes it effective in making the mucus more fluid and clearing the airways easily, thereby making breathing easier. This effect of Ambrodil-XP Capsule works as an added advantage over theophylline. Moreover, it also reduces the need for other medicine used to treat asthma, like salbutamol.
