Overview

Introduction

Abel 40 Tablet is a medicine used to treat high blood pressure and heart failure. Lowering blood pressure helps to prevent future heart attack and stroke. This medicine is also effective in preserving kidney function in patients with diabetes.

Abel 40 Tablet can be prescribed either alone or in combination with other medicines. It may be taken with or without food during the day or at night. However, try to take it at the same time each day to get the most benefit. It is important to continue taking it regularly even if you feel well or if your blood pressure is controlled. Most people with high blood pressure do not feel ill, but if you stop taking this medicine, your condition could get worse. This is a widely used medicine and is considered safe for long-term use.

Making some changes in your lifestyle will also help lower your blood pressure. These may include regular exercise, losing weight, smoking cessation, reducing alcohol intake, and reducing the amount of salt in your diet as advised by your doctor. This medicine is tolerated well by most patients and has few side effects. Dizziness, particularly after the first dose, is known to occur in some people. This may be associated with headache. Let your doctor know if these side effects bother you or do not go away. No weight gain has been seen with the regular use of this medicine.

Before taking this medicine, let your doctor know if you have any kidney or liver problems. Pregnant or breastfeeding mothers should also consult their doctor before taking it. Your doctor may check your kidney function, blood pressure, and potassium levels in your blood at regular intervals while you are taking this medicine.

Uses of Abel Tablet

Benefits of Abel Tablet

In Hypertension (high blood pressure)

Abel 40 Tablet lowers blood pressure by relaxing blood vessels and making it easier for your heart to pump blood around your body. It must be taken regularly as prescribed to be effective. You do not usually feel any direct benefit from taking this medicine, but it works in the long term to keep you well.

In Heart failure

Heart failure means your heart is weak and cannot pump enough blood to your lungs and the rest of your body. The most common symptoms are breathlessness, tiredness, and swelling in your legs, ankles, abdomen, and other parts of your body. Abel 40 Tablet lowers your blood pressure which makes it easier for your heart to pump blood around your body and is, therefore, an effective treatment for heart failure.

This medicine will help relieve your symptoms, making you feel better and more energetic. You should make appropriate lifestyle changes (such as eating healthily and keeping active) to help this medicine be effective. Take it regularly and keep taking it even if you feel better.

In Prevention of heart attack and stroke

Abel 40 Tablet lowers your blood pressure and makes it easier for your heart to pump blood around your body. If your blood pressure is controlled you are less at risk of having a heart attack or stroke. Keep taking this medicine regularly.

Side effects of Abel Tablet

Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them

Common side effects of Abel

  • Dizziness
  • Muscle damage
  • Diarrhea

How to cope with side effects?

The occurrence of side effects varies from person to person. The following are a few ways of dealing with some of the common side effects. However, consult your doctor if these persist.

  • Coping with Dizziness
This is usually short-lived and should go away within a few days. If this happens, stop what you are doing and sit or lie down until you feel better. Lying still in a dark, quiet room may help reduce the spinning feeling. Sleep with your head slightly raised on two or more pillows. Get up slowly from a lying or sitting position. Get plenty of rest and try to relax as being anxious can make it worse. Try taking this medicine at bedtime to reduce the symptoms. Drinking plenty of water and ginger tea may also help. Avoid alcohol, caffeine and smoking as it will make you feel worse. Avoid driving or using tools or machinery until you feel better.
  • Coping with Diarrhea
Keep up your intake of fluids and electrolytes (sugars and salts) to avoid getting dehydrated. Eat less fiber (avoid raw fruits, fruit juice and vegetables). Talk to your doctor about possible medication to manage diarrhea. Ask about reducing the dosage of your drug or other suitable treatments.

How to use Abel Tablet

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Abel 40 Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

How Abel Tablet works

Abel 40 Tablet is an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB). It relaxes the blood vessel by blocking the action of a chemical that usually makes blood vessels tighter. This lowers the blood pressure, allowing the blood to flow more smoothly to different organs and the heart to pump more efficiently.

FAQs

Q. Is Abel better than telmisartan?

Both Abel and telmisartan are blood pressure-lowering medicines. Abel is a relatively new medicine. It has been found to be as effective as telmisartan in lowering blood pressure. It can be safely used in patients as it has fewer side effects.

Q. How should I take Abel?

You should take Abel exactly as directed by your doctor. It is for oral use and is usually taken once a day. You should take it with plenty of water, with or without food. It is recommended that you take this medicine at the same time every day.

Q. Can I stop Abel on my own?

No, do not stop taking Abel without speaking to your doctor, even if you are feeling well or your blood pressure is controlled. Stopping it suddenly may increase your blood pressure which may increase your risk of stroke.

Q. How long does Abel take to start working?

Abel may take about 2 weeks to show a visible reduction in blood pressure. Full benefits of Abel may take a little longer, about 4 weeks.

Q. What are the symptoms of overdose of Abel?

Q. Which class does Abel belong to?

Abel belongs to a class of medicines called angiotensin II receptor antagonists (AIIRAs). Angiotensin II is a substance which occurs naturally in the body. It tightens the blood vessels, which in turn increases the blood pressure. Abel blocks this effect so that the blood vessels relax, which helps lower your blood pressure.

Q. What is the most important information I should know about Abel?

It is important for you to know that this medicine can cause harm or death to your unborn baby. Therefore, if you are planning a pregnancy or have become pregnant, consult your doctor right away. Your doctor may switch you to a different medicine to treat your high blood pressure.
