We’re Listening: How Much Water Should You Be Drinking?


Q) How much water should I be drinking daily to stay healthy?

A) Water makes up to 60 % of our body’s weight and is absolutely essential  for our organs to function.Water helps in regulating body temperature, lubricates joints, helps prevent constipation, helps in smooth functioning of liver and kidneys and helps dissolve minerals and nutrients in the body.

Most of the people think drinking up to 8 glasses ( 1.5- 2 liters) of water is enough. While 8 glasses a day is a good start but the actual amount of water a person should drink in a day can vary based on where you live, how much you weigh, and what kind of lifestyle you lead.

Well, We have simplified this dilemma for you!

Follow These Simple Tips

-If you stay indoors most of the times or if work in an air-conditioned environment it is recommended to drink around 2 liters

-If you have a hectic outdoor work schedule, and during summers  it is recommended to drink up to 3 liters of water

– If you are not used to drinking water, start by having 1 glass of water early in the morning, 2 glasses before lunch, and 2 glasses before dinner.This will ensure that you drink  at least 1 liter a day

-Carry a water bottle with you at all times. This will act both as a reminder and a means to check your water intake. Make sure to use a good quality bottle preferably made from glass

-If you exercise regularly, it’s important to drink water before, during and after your workout. Drink an extra 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 glasses of water


How will I know if I am drinking enough?

– If you are drinking enough quantity of water, you should be passing a clear or light yellow urine

-Feeling thirsty and passing dark colored, strong-smelling urine are some of the initial signs that you could be dehydrated

-Other symptoms can include feeling sluggish, feeling light headed and or having a dry mouth

What should I do if water is not my thing?

The idea is to stay hydrated throughout the day. If water isn’t your thing, you could  try sparkling water or add a slice of lemon or lime. Or else heat the water and infuse a green tea bag for some flavor. On some days, you can also safely substitute juice, milk or coffee for a glass or two or combine 1/3 glass of juice with 2/3 glass of water.
