Here are some important tips to follow in case of a sprain or strain:
-Follow RICE therapy.
-Rest- Rest and limit all movements. Use a sling or crutches to support the limb if necessary.
-Ice- Apply ice in a towel on the affected area for 20 minutes each hour.
-Compress- Wrap cloth bandage firmly (not too tight) around the joint/limb to reduce swelling.
-Elevate- Elevate limb above heart level, even while asleep. Avoid bearing weight or putting any strain.
-Contact your physician for further management.
