Constipation is one of the most common health problems. Unhealthy eating practices, inadequate sleep, sedentary lifestyle and stressful life are some of the common triggers for constipation. MYTH #1 Constipation Is Inevitable As You Age

-Constipation is not governed by how old you are, it has a lot more to do with your eating habits, underlying medical conditions and the medications that you take.

-Lifestyle diseases such as diabetics, hypertension, and anti-inflammatory disorders do put you at an increased risk of constipation, however, does not relate it to an individual’s age.

MYTH #2 Yoghurt Treats Constipation

-Probiotics in yoghurt help to promote healthy bacteria in the gut, however, it does not suggest that yoghurt treats constipation.

-It is recommended to take a daily probiotic such as yoghurt along with other fibrous and healthy foods to avoid constipation.

MYTH #3 You Are Constipated If You Do Not Have Bowel Each Day 

-While there is no particular definition for constipation, as the normal bowel movements may vary from person to person.

-Some people go twice a day and others only go thrice a week. However, if you fail to pass stool over 3-5 days, means you are constipated.

MYTH #4 Constipation Is Not Serious And Can Be Ignored 

-Though, many times it is taken lightly, but it should not be ignored. It may not lead to life-threatening complications, however, untreated constipation can cause painful hemorrhoids and anal fissures.

-Symptoms such as constipation should never be avoided. Its persistence can severely impact a person’s day-to-day chores.

MYTH #5 Only Fiber Rich Diet Keeps Constipation Away

-No, it is not so. Though it is important to add fiber-rich foods to the daily diet, however, alone fibrous foods cannot help.

-It is extremely important to include healthy foods and fruits to the daily diet (which includes equal portions of whole grains, proteins, fiber and carbohydrates).

MYTH #6 Drink More Water To Treat Constipation

Drinking plenty of water is a healthy practice, however, guzzling down liters of water alone probably does not encourage a bowel movement.

Make sure you eat healthy food along with the adequate amount of water and physical workout to reduce the chances of constipation.
