Inhibin B

The Inhibin B test is a blood test that measures the level of inhibin B, a hormone that is involved in the production of eggs in women and sperm in men. It is useful in fertility evaluation and assessing reproductive health.

Understanding Inhibin B
Inhibin B is a hormone produced by the ovaries in women and the testes in men. It plays a key role in regulating the production of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), which is involved in the development of eggs and sperm. In some cases, measuring inhibin B levels can be used as a marker for certain ovarian cancers or assist in reproductive procedures, such as IVF.
In women, the level of inhibin B reflects the activity of ovarian follicles and can be used to evaluate ovarian reserve (the number and quality of remaining eggs). Low levels of inhibin B hormone may be associated with reduced ovarian reserve. In men, inhibin B levels often correlate with sperm production and are useful in assessing male fertility, especially in cases of low sperm count or infertility.
Doctors may advise the Inhibin B test for individuals undergoing fertility treatments, those with irregular menstrual cycles, or those suspected to have conditions like polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) or primary ovarian insufficiency. In men, it may be used alongside semen analysis to help diagnose infertility or testicular issues.
The preferred sampling time for the Inhibin B test in females is Day 2/Day 3 of the menstrual cycle to assess ovarian reserve. Inform the doctor about all the medications and supplements currently being taken, as some of them may affect the test results, and your doctor may advise adjustments.
Test result ranges are approximate and may differ slightly between labs depending on the methodology and laboratory guidelines. Do not self-medicate and always consult a doctor to understand the test results correctly.
Please note: This is an outsourced test. The sample is collected by TATA 1MG and processed at a NABL accredited partnered lab.
What does Inhibin B measure?
The Inhibin B measures the amount of inhibin B hormone in the blood. It helps assess gonadal functions and ovarian reserve. In women, it reflects ovarian follicle activity. In men, it may reflect sperm production and testicular function.
