The Galactomannan,Serum test detects galactomannan, a key antigen released by Aspergillus species during fungal growth. This test provides rapid and sensitive detection of the fungus in the blood, enabling early diagnosis of invasive aspergillosis. Early detection is crucial because timely initiation of antifungal therapy significantly improves patient outcomes.

Doctors may recommend this test if there are symptoms suggestive of Aspergillus infection, such as persistent cough, fever, shortness of breath, or chest pain, especially if the individual is immunocompromised. It is also used to monitor the response over time to antifungal treatment or assess the risk of developing invasive aspergillosis in high-risk individuals.

Usually, no special preparation is required for this test. Eat and drink as per the daily routine. However, sharing the clinical history, current medications, and supplement use with the doctor before giving the sample is preferred, as these may influence the results.
