CA 72.4,

The CA 72.4, test is a blood test that helps measure the level of cancer antigen 72.4 (CA 72.4) in the body. This test is often used as an adjunct gastric cancer marker and to monitor and track the treatment of certain cancers, especially gastrointestinal (stomach) cancers. Also, CA 72.4 may serve as an adjunct tumor marker for both colon and ovarian cancer.

Understanding CA 72.4,
CA 72.4 is a tumor-associated glycoprotein (TAG-72). Its elevated levels have been observed in certain types of cancers, particularly gastric (stomach) cancer. CA 72.4 (or CA 72-4) levels are typically increased in advanced stages of stomach cancer, especially when the cancer has spread to the surrounding lymph nodes. Thus, even though this test is not very useful in diagnosing early cancer, it helps check for cancer recurrence after treatment.
The CA 72.4, test is primarily used to support the diagnosis, monitor response to treatment, and detect cancer recurrence in patients with known gastrointestinal malignancies. This test is not used alone to diagnose cancer. But it can be helpful when combined with other blood tests, imaging studies, and medical investigations.
Doctors may recommend this test for individuals being assessed for gastric cancer or other cancers, such as colorectal or ovarian cancers. Also, this test can be done when there is a or when symptoms strongly suggest gastric cancer. High levels of CA 72.4 may be seen in active cancer or its recurrence. However, increased levels can also be seen in non-cancerous conditions such as inflammation or gastrointestinal disorders. On the other hand, low levels may suggest a positive treatment response.
No special preparation is required for the CA 72.4, test. However, provide the relevant clinical history and the doctor’s prescription at the time of sample collection. Inform the doctor about all the medications and supplements being taken, as some of them may affect the test results, and therefore, may need to be reviewed by the doctor before the test.
Test result ranges are approximate and may differ slightly between labs depending on the methodology and laboratory guidelines. Do not self-medicate and always consult a doctor to understand the test results correctly.
Please note: This is an outsourced test. The sample is collected by TATA 1MG and processed at a NABL accredited partnered lab.
What does CA 72.4, measure?
The CA 72.4, test measures the amount of cancer antigen 72.4 (CA 72.4) in the blood. CA 72.4 (or CA 72-4) is a tumor-associated glycoprotein that may be elevated in various cancers, particularly gastrointestinal cancers.
High levels of CA 72.4 may suggest active cancer or recurrence, while low levels may suggest effective treatment. However, the CA 72.4, is not a cancer-specific test and must be interpreted along with other clinical findings and diagnostic investigations.
