Product introduction

Tri-Glimen Tablet should be taken with food, preferably at the same time each day. Your doctor will decide what dose is best for you and this may change from time to time based on your blood sugar levels.

Keep taking this medicine, even if you feel well or your blood sugar levels are controlled. If you stop it without consulting your doctor, your blood sugar levels could rise and put you at risk of kidney damage, blindness, nerve problems, and loss of limbs. Remember that it is only part of a treatment program that should also include a healthy diet, regular exercise, and weight reduction as advised by your doctor. Your lifestyle plays a big part in controlling diabetes.

The most common side effect of Tri-Glimen Tablet is low blood glucose levels (hypoglycemia). Make sure you recognize the signs of low blood glucose levels (sweating, dizziness, headache) and know how to deal with them. To prevent this, it's important to have regular meals and always carry a fast-acting source of glucose such as sugary food or fruit juice with you. Drinking alcohol can also increase your risk of low blood sugar levels and should be avoided. Other side effects that may be seen on taking this medicine include nausea, taste changes, diarrhea, stomach pain, headache, edema (swelling), blurred vision, bone fracture, and upper respiratory tract infections. Some people may find that they put on weight with this medicine.

You should not take it if you have type 1 diabetes mellitus, if you have diabetic ketoacidosis (high levels of acid in your blood), or if you have severe kidney or liver disease. Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you have ever had heart disease. It may not be suitable. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should also consult their doctor before taking it. Your blood sugar levels should be checked regularly and your doctor may also advise blood tests to monitor your blood cell counts and liver function.

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Tri-Glimen Tablet should be taken with or after food.

How Tri-Glimen Tablet works

Tri-Glimen Tablet is a combination of three antidiabetic medicines: Gliclazide, Pioglitazone and Metformin. They work by different mechanisms to provide better control of blood sugar when single or dual therapy is not effective. Gliclazide is a sulfonylurea which works by increasing the amount of insulin released by the pancreas in order to lower the blood glucose. Pioglitazone is a thiazolidinedione which increases insulin sensitivity. Metformin is a biguanide. It works by lowering glucose production in the liver, delaying glucose absorption from intestines and further increasing the body's sensitivity to insulin.

Quick tips

  • Tri-Glimen Tablet is a combination of three medicines that provides better blood sugar control than either medicine alone.
  • You should continue to exercise regularly, eat a healthy diet, and take your other diabetes medicines along with Tri-Glimen Tablet.
  • Take it with food to lower your chance of having an upset stomach.
  • Monitor your blood sugar level regularly while you are taking this medicine.
  • It may cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar level) when used with other antidiabetic medicines, alcohol or if you delay or miss a meal.
  • Always carry some sugary food or fruit juice with you in case you experience hypoglycemic symptoms such as cold sweats, cool pale skin, tremor, and anxiety.
  • Your doctor may check your liver function regularly. Inform your doctor if you develop symptoms such as abdominal pain, loss of appetite, or yellowing of the eyes or skin (jaundice).

Frequently asked questions

Tri-Glimen Tablet is used to control blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes when diet, exercise, weight loss, etc., alone are not enough. It helps improve how your body uses insulin and lowers sugar levels in your blood.
Individuals should not take Tri-Glimen Tablet if they have type 1 diabetes, severe kidney or liver problems, heart failure, serious infections, breathing problems, diabetic coma, are pregnant, breastfeeding, or if they are allergic to any of its ingredients.
Yes, Tri-Glimen Tablet may cause low blood sugar levels, especially if you skip meals, take more than the prescribed dose, exercise heavily, drink alcohol, etc. Symptoms of low blood sugar levels include sweating, shakiness, dizziness, fast heartbeat, confusion, extreme hunger, etc. Eating or drinking something sugary can help quickly raise blood sugar levels.
The serious side effects of Tri-Glimen Tablet include severe allergic reactions (rash, swelling, difficulty breathing), very low blood sugar, signs of lactic acidosis (deep breathing, muscle pain, stomach discomfort, extreme tiredness), sudden swelling of hands, legs, face, etc. If you experience any of these symptoms, consult your doctor immediately.
You should take Tri-Glimen Tablet exactly as prescribed, preferably just before or during a meal, with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next dose, and do not take two doses at once.
Tri-Glimen Tablet can be used in elderly patients only if kidney function is normal. Since kidney function naturally declines with age, older adults need extra monitoring and possible dose adjustments.
