What are the uses of Telvo 40 mg Tablet?

Telvo 40 mg Tablet is a blood-pressure lowering medication. It belongs to a class of medicine called angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs).

Telvo 40 mg Tablet is mainly used for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure). Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of heart attack and stroke.

Telvo 40 mg Tablet is also used for the treatment of chronic (long-standing) heart failure and to protect kidney function in those suffering from diabetes and mild-to-moderate kidney disease.

It can either be used alone or in combination with other blood pressure-lowering medicines.

What are the possible side effects of Telvo 40 mg Tablet?

Common side effects (may affect 1 in 10 people)

Telvo 40 mg Tablet may cause hypotension (low blood pressure) which may cause dizziness or headache. The risk of low blood pressure increases if you are dehydrated or taking diuretics (water pills) along with Telvo 40 mg Tablet.

Uncommon side effects (may affect 1 in 100 people)

Telvo 40 mg Tablet may raise potassium levels. It may cause urinary tract infections, upper respiratory tract infections, anemia, abdominal pain, vomiting, itching, back pain, muscle cramps, pain in chest, depression, sweating, and shortness of breath.

Rare side effects (may affect 1 in 1000 people)

In rare cases, Telvo 40 mg Tablet use may lead to an increase in white blood cells, low platelet count,severe allergic reactions, abnormal liver function, dry mouth, taste disturbance (dysgeusia) and rapid heartbeat.

How to use Telvo 40 mg Tablet?

Take this medicine as advised by your doctor. You should swallow the medicine as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. It may be taken with or without food and it is better to take it at a fixed time.

How Telvo 40 mg Tablet works?

Telvo 40 mg Tablet is an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB). It relaxes blood vessel by blocking the action of a chemical that usually makes blood vessels tighter. This lowers the blood pressure, allowing the blood to flow more smoothly to different organs and the heart to pump more efficiently.

What do experts say about Telvo 40 mg Tablet?

Telvo 40 mg Tablet can make you feel dizzy for the first few days. Take it preferably at bedtime and rise slowly if you are sitting or lying down.

Telvo 40 mg Tablet may increase the level of potassium in the blood. Avoid taking potassium supplements and potassium-rich foods such as banana and broccoli. Inform your doctor if you experience increased tiredness, nausea, or vomiting. These symptoms could indicate high blood potassium levels (hyperkalemia).

Do not take Telvo 40 mg Tablet during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Taking Telvo 40 mg Tablet with alcohol may excessively lower the blood pressure.


Telvo 40 mg Tablet may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown adverse effects on the foetus, however, there are limited human studies. Please inform your doctor if you are pregnant.

Lactation (Breast feeding)

Telvo 40 mg Tablet is probably unsafe to use during breastfeeding. Your doctor may choose another treatment for you if you wish to breastfeed. Please consult your doctor.


Telvo 40 mg Tablet may make you feel dizzy, sleepy, tired, or decrease alertness. If this happens, do not drive.

Patients with kidney disease

Telvo 40 mg Tablet is safe to use in patients with kidney disease. No dose adjustment is required. However, inform your doctor if you have kidney disease. Regular monitoring of creatinine and potassium levels may be advised while you are taking this medicine.

Patients with Liver disease

Telvo 40 mg Tablet should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Dose adjustment may be needed. Use of Telvo 40 mg Tablet is not recommended if you have severe liver disease. Please inform your doctor about the same.

What if I miss a dose of Telvo 40 mg Tablet?

If you miss a dose of Telvo 40 mg Tablet, skip it and continue with your normal schedule. Do not double the dose. It is recommended to take Telvo 40 mg Tablet at the same time every day. This will lower the possibility of missing a dose.

Can I stop taking Telvo 40 mg Tablet on my own?

No, you cannot stop Telvo 40 mg Tablet without consulting the doctor. If you feel that the effect is too strong or too weak, discuss this with your doctor. Do not stop taking it abruptly.

What lifestyle changes are recommended along with Telvo 40 mg Tablet?

Proper diet and regular exercise regimen should be followed as you take this medicine to effectively control the blood pressure. Eating a healthy diet such as the DASH diet, which includes fruits, vegetables, and low-fat dairy products, can be very effective. You must also quit smoking and limit alcohol consumption while taking Telvo 40 mg Tablet. Avoid eating processed and packaged foods since they are high in sugar and trans fat. Consistent moderate intensity exercise for at least 30 minutes 5 times a week helps strengthen your heart and burns fat. If you can’t fit in 30 continuous minutes of exercise, you can split it up and do three 10-minute walks during the day. Monitor your blood sugar level regularly even if you are not a diabetic. Check your cholesterol every 6 months.

When not to take Telvo 40 mg Tablet?

Inform your doctor if you have increased potassium levels, liver disease, raised aldosterone levels, low blood pressure, diabetes, and bilateral renal artery stenosis.
