Redufen 100mg Tablet


Overview

Introduction

Redufen 100mg Tablet is a pain relieving medicine. It is used to treat conditions such as painful flare ups of rheumatism, arthritis, strained muscles and tendons, and gout. It also used to treat other painful conditions of the bone or muscle and pain and inflammation following orthopedic surgery.

Redufen 100mg Tablet should be taken with food to avoid stomach upset and reduce side effects. In general, you should try to use the smallest amount necessary to control your symptoms, for the shortest possible time. You should take this medicine regularly while you need it. Try not to miss doses as it will become less effective if you do.

The common side effects of this medicine include vomiting, stomach pain, nausea, and indigestion. If any of these side effects do not resolve with time or get worse, you should let your doctor know. Your doctor may be able to suggest ways of preventing or reducing the symptoms.

This medicine is generally considered safe but is not suitable for everybody. Before you take it, you should tell your doctor if you have kidney problems, asthma, blood disorders or drink a lot of alcohol. Also, tell your doctor what other medicines you are taking to make sure you are safe. It is best to avoid drinking alcohol while using this medicine.

How to cope with side effects?

  • Coping with Vomiting
    You can help yourself by eating small, frequent meals rather than large ones and drinking plenty of fluids. Eat slowly. Avoid fatty, fried, spicy and very sweet foods. Eat cold or slightly warm food if the smell of cooked or cooking food makes you feel sick. Get plenty of fresh air. You could also try chewing ginger or drinking ginger tea. Eat bananas to replace potassium in your blood which can drop if you are sick (vomit). Use oral rehydration salts to replace vitamins and minerals lost through being sick. There are some medicines that can help you stop feeling sick. Speak to your doctor if your condition does not improve.
  • Coping with Nausea
    You can help yourself by eating small, frequent meals rather than large ones and drinking plenty of fluids. Eat slowly. Avoid fatty, fried, spicy and very sweet foods. Eat cold or slightly warm food if the smell of cooked or cooking food makes you feel sick. Get plenty of fresh air. You could also try chewing ginger or drinking ginger tea.     Try taking your medicine with a meal or snack, or shortly after eating. It might help to eat smaller and more frequent meals, and to eat and drink slowly. Avoid foods which can irritate your stomach such as carbonated soft drinks, caffeine, fatty and spicy foods, mints and citrus fruits. Quit smoking and alcohol because they increase the symptoms. Do not eat for 3 or 4 hours before going to bed. Try raising the head of your bed at night or use extra pillows. Ask your doctor or pharmacist about medicines that may help, such as antacids, if your condition does not improve.

How to use Redufen Tablet

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Redufen 100mg Tablet is to be taken with food.

How Redufen Tablet works

Redufen 100mg Tablet is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It works by blocking the release of certain chemical messengers that cause fever, pain and inflammation (redness and swelling).

Redufen 100mg Tablet should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Redufen 100mg Tablet may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
Regular monitoring of kidney function test is advised while you are taking this medicine. Use of Redufen 100mg Tablet is not recommended in patients with severe kidney disease.

Q. Does Redufen raise blood pressure?

In a few cases, Redufen may cause an increase in blood pressure. Before taking Redufen, you should inform your doctor if you have high blood pressure. Also, inform your doctor about the medicines that you might be taking for it. Doctors prescribe this medicine in people with high blood pressure only if the benefits outweigh the risks. In fact, patients with uncontrolled blood pressure should be very careful and should regularly monitor their blood pressure while on Redufen.

Q. What happens if you take Redufen on an empty stomach?

Taking Redufen on an empty stomach may cause nausea, vomiting, upset stomach, burning sensation in food pipe and stomach pain. Therefore, Redufen should be taken with a glass of water either with meals or just after meals. Your doctor may also recommend to take an antacid with Redufen to avoid stomach upset.

Q. Can you drink alcohol with Redufen?

If you are taking high doses of Redufen or a long-term treatment or both, then it is advisable that you restrict or avoid alcohol. The reason being, taking both of them together increases your chances of ulcers and bleeding. It may also result in holes in the stomach and intestine (gastrointestinal perforation). These are serious side effects of Redufen which may be life-threatening. Discuss with your doctor if you are not sure.

Q. Can I take Redufen during pregnancy?

Avoid taking Redufen during pregnancy as it may put your pregnancy and your unborn baby at risk. There have been reports of miscarriage and defects in the heart of the baby. But, if it is absolutely necessary to take it, then your doctor may prescribe a low dose for the shortest duration. This is applicable for the first 6 months of pregnancy. Redufen should not be given during the last 3 months of pregnancy as it may cause various defects in the baby and may also prolong labor.

Q. Can Redufen make you sleepy?

Yes, Redufen may cause sleepiness. It may also cause dizziness, visual disturbances, drowsiness, fits and spinning sensation. Do not drive or operate heavy machinery if you experience these symptoms. Consult your doctor if you are not sure.

Q. How long can you take Redufen?

Take Redufen only as long as advised by your doctor. Do not take it for longer than the recommended period of time. Long-term treatment with Redufen and at high doses can cause an increased risk of heart attack, stroke, ulcers, bleeding or holes in stomach and intestine. These symptoms can occur at any time without warning.
