Rafacol CR Tablet is a steroid. It works by blocking the production of certain chemical messengers that cause the inner surface of the large intestine (colon and rectum) to become ulcerated and inflamed (swollen), resulting in pain.

Swallow Rafacol CR Tablet whole without crushing or chewing to ensure proper release of medicine from Rafacol CR Tablet in the gut.
Take it at the same time each day to maintain a steady medicine level in your body.
If you develop mouth ulcers or persistent stomach pain, report it to your doctor as these could be early signs of irritation.
Let your doctor know if you are taking any steroids or have had recent infections, as this may affect your dose.
If you are scheduled for surgery or have been under stress, inform your doctor, as your body may need extra steroid support.

Breast feeding

Driving

Kidney

There is limited data available on the use of Rafacol CR Tablet in patients with kidney disease. Please consult your doctor.

Liver

CAUTION

Rafacol CR Tablet should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Dose adjustment may be needed.
Use of Rafacol CR Tablet is not recommended in patients with severe liver disease as the data available in these patients is very limited.

Interaction with drugs

Taking Rafacol with any of the following medicines can modify the effect of either of them and cause some undesirable side effects

Severe

Cholera Vaccine (Inactivated) (Oral Route)

It is recommended to wait at least 3 months after discontinuing a high dose of Budesonide before taking Cholera Vaccine (Inactivated).

Severe

Purified Vi Polysaccharide Typhoid Vaccine (Injection Route)

It is recommended to wait at least 3 months after discontinuing a high dose of Budesonide before taking Purified Vi Polysaccharide Typhoid Vaccine.

Severe

Ceritinib (Oral Route)

Ceritinib may raise blood levels of Budesonide. Ceritinib may raise blood levels of Budesonide.

Severe

Posaconazole (Oral Route)

Do not consume Budesonide with Posaconazole. If concurrent use is essential, watch out for symptoms such as moon-face, flushing, increased bruising or acne and consult your doctor if you experience them. They may adjust the dose of Budesonide accordingly. Posaconazole may raise blood levels of Budesonide.
