Overview

Introduction of Rabin Tablet

Rabin 20 Tablet is a prescription medicine used for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (acid-reflux) and peptic ulcer disease.

Rabin 20 Tablet is also used for treatment and prophylaxis of reflux oesophagitis, in combination with other medicines for eradication of Helicobacter pylori infection and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. This medicine works by reducing the amount of acid in the stomach which helps to provide relief in acid related indigestion and heartburn.
It is taken by mouth one hour before the meal, preferably in the morning. Take this medicine in dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Before taking this medicine it is better to inform doctor if you are suffering from any liver or kidney disease as dose of your medicine needs to be adjusted. It is better to not take this medicine along with an antacid, you may try to take it two hours before or after taking this medicine.

It is well tolerated and safe medicine with a very low incidence of any harmful effects. However, there can be side effects headache, abdominal pain, flatulence, dry mouth, rash and nausea. This medicine may cause diarrhea, so it is better to take plenty of fluids while taking this medicine as it may help to prevent dehydration. However, it is better to consult doctor if you get watery diarrhea with fever or stomach pain that does not go away. Remember long term use of this medicine may lead to deficiency of vitamin B12 and magnesium. This medicine may cause an increased risk for osteoporosis related fractures of the hip, wrist or spine when used for a longer time. Thus, taking adequate supplements of calcium and magnesium can be helpful in such cases.

How to use Rabin Tablet

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Rabin 20 Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

How Rabin Tablet works

Rabin 20 Tablet is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI). It works by reducing the amount of acid in the stomach which helps in relief of acid related indigestion and heartburn.

Lactation

Rabin 20 Tablet is probably unsafe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug may pass into the breastmilk and harm the baby.
Driving
UNSAFE
Rabin 20 Tablet may decrease alertness, affect your vision or make you feel sleepy and dizzy. Do not drive if these symptoms occur.
Kidney
SAFE IF PRESCRIBED
Rabin 20 Tablet is safe to use in patients with kidney disease. No dose adjustment of Rabin 20 Tablet is recommended.
Liver
CAUTION
Rabin 20 Tablet should be used with caution in patients with severe liver disease. Dose adjustment of Rabin 20 Tablet may be needed. Please consult your doctor.

What if you miss a dose of Rabin Tablet?

If you miss a dose of Rabin 20 Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

  • Some healthy tips to prevent acidity from happening:
    • Avoid taking hot tea, coffee, spicy food, and chocolate. Instead, have cold milk and cold coffee as these help neutralize the acid in the stomach.
    • Avoid alcohol and smoking.
    • Avoid eating late at night or before bedtime.
       
  • Inform your doctor if you get watery diarrhea, fever or stomach pain that does not go away.
  • Inform your doctor if you do not feel better after taking it for 14 days as you may be suffering from some other problem that needs attention.
  • Long-term use can cause weak bones and deficiency of minerals such as magnesium. Take adequate dietary intake of calcium and magnesium or their supplements as prescribed by your doctor.

Rabin will start working in 2-3 hours after taking it. You should start feeling better in 2-3 days.

Q. What is the best time to take Rabin?

It is best to take Rabin before your breakfast. If you are taking two doses, take it in the morning and evening. Rabin is more effective when it is taken 30 min before your food.

Q. Can I stop taking Rabin if I feel better?

Q. Does Rabin cause bone problems?

Yes, long term use of Rabin can cause thinning of bones, which is called osteoporosis. Rabin decreases the calcium absorption leading to calcium deficiency, and increases the risk of bone fractures of hip, wrist or spine.

Q. How is Rabin useful in the treatment of H. pylori infection?

Rabin is used along with antibiotics for the treatment of H.Pylori infection. It works by decreasing stomach acid volume and decreasing breakdown and washout of antibiotics leading to an increased antibiotic concentration and tissue penetration. It also helps in the symptomatic relief by decreasing associated acidity, reflux, and heartburn.

Q. Can I take Rabin with vitamin D?

Yes, vitamin D can be taken along with Rabin. Vitamin D is generally advised to be taken as a supplement with Rabin as its long-term use decreases the absorption of calcium and cause calcium deficiency. This can lead to osteoporosis (thinning of bones) and increase the risk of bone fractures like hip, wrist and spine fractures.

Q. Can long term use of Rabin cause magnesium deficiency?

Long-term use of Rabin can lower magnesium levels in patients taking multiple daily doses for a year or longer (at least 3 months). Get your magnesium levels checked at regular intervals. Tell your doctor if you experience seizures, dizziness, abnormal or fast heartbeat, jitteriness, jerking movements or shaking (tremors), muscle weakness, spasms of the hands and feet, cramps, muscle aches or spasm of the voice box.

Q. Is it safe to use Rabin for long term?

Rabin should be used as long as prescribed by your doctor. Rabin is usually considered to be safe when taken in the recommended dose and duration.
