FAQs
What is Norbid 400mg Tablet and what is it used for?
Norbid 400mg Tablet is an antibiotic used to treat a variety of bacterial infections affecting the urinary tract, gastrointestinal tract, and certain genital infections. It is commonly prescribed for conditions such as urinary tract infections (UTIs), chronic prostatitis, gonorrheal infections, and acute bacterial gastroenteritis. This medicine is generally recommended when other commonly used antibiotics are considered unsuitable or ineffective for the infection.
How should Norbid 400mg Tablet be taken for best results?
Norbid 400mg Tablet should be swallowed with a full glass of water to ensure proper absorption and reduce the risk of urinary side effects. The medicine should be taken at least one hour before or two hours after meals or milk products because food and dairy can interfere with absorption. Drinking adequate fluids during treatment is important to maintain hydration and help the medicine work effectively.
Can Norbid 400mg Tablet be taken with milk, antacids, or multivitamins?
Norbid 400mg Tablet should not be taken at the same time as milk, dairy products, antacids, or supplements containing iron or zinc. These products can reduce the amount of medicine absorbed into the bloodstream, making the treatment less effective. A gap of at least two hours before or after taking such products is recommended to ensure optimal antibiotic action.
Who should not take Norbid 400mg Tablet?
Norbid 400mg Tablet should not be used in people who are allergic to norfloxacin or other quinolone antibiotics. It is also contraindicated in individuals with a history of tendon problems related to fluoroquinolone use, as well as in pregnant women and pre-pubertal children. A doctor should always evaluate medical history carefully before prescribing this antibiotic to ensure safe use.
Can Norbid 400mg Tablet cause tendon pain or muscle problems?
Norbid 400mg Tablet belongs to the fluoroquinolone class of antibiotics, which has been associated with tendon inflammation and, in rare cases, tendon rupture. These effects may occur during treatment or even months after stopping the medicine. Patients should stop taking the drug and seek medical advice immediately if they notice tendon pain, swelling, or difficulty moving a joint.
Is Norbid 400mg Tablet safe for people with diabetes?
Norbid 400mg Tablet may affect blood glucose levels and can sometimes cause either low or high blood sugar, particularly in people with diabetes. Patients using insulin or oral antidiabetic medicines should monitor their blood sugar closely while taking this antibiotic. Any symptoms such as dizziness, sweating, confusion, or unusual weakness should be reported to a doctor promptly.
Should sunlight be avoided while taking Norbid 400mg Tablet?
Norbid 400mg Tablet may increase sensitivity of the skin to sunlight, which can lead to exaggerated sunburn or skin reactions. Patients are advised to avoid excessive sun exposure or tanning beds during treatment. If redness, swelling, or severe skin reactions develop after sun exposure, the medicine should be discontinued, and medical advice should be sought.
