How Mefudic Tablet works

Mefudic Tablet is a combination of three medicines: furazolidone, metronidazole and dicyclomine which treats diarrhea. Furazolidone and metronidazole are antibiotics which works by stopping the growth of bacteria and other diarrhea causing microorganisms. Dicyclomine is an anticholinergic which works by relaxing the muscles in the stomach and gut (intestine). It stops sudden muscle contractions (spasms). By doing this, it relieves cramps, pain, bloating, and discomfort.

Frequently asked questions

Mefudic Tablet is used to treat stomach and intestinal infections that may cause diarrhea, abdominal pain, stomach cramps, and discomfort. It helps manage the infection while also providing relief from painful intestinal spasms, allowing the digestive system to recover more comfortably.
Mefudic Tablet contains Furazolidone, Metronidazole, and Dicyclomine. Furazolidone and Metronidazole help fight infection-causing microorganisms in the digestive tract, while Dicyclomine helps relax the muscles of the stomach and intestines. Together, they help control infection-related symptoms and reduce abdominal cramps and discomfort.
Each ingredient in Mefudic Tablet has a different role. Furazolidone and Metronidazole help treat the infection, while Dicyclomine helps relieve painful stomach spasms and cramps. Combining these actions allows the medicine to address both the cause of the illness and the symptoms that often accompany it.
Mefudic Tablet can be taken as advised by your doctor. However, taking it after meals may feel more comfortable on the stomach and may help reduce stomach upset that some individuals experience during treatment.
The Dicyclomine in Mefudic Tablet helps relax intestinal muscles and may provide relief from stomach cramps. However, since this medicine is primarily prescribed for infections associated with gastrointestinal symptoms, it should only be used for the condition for which your doctor has prescribed it.
Some individuals may notice improvement in abdominal discomfort and diarrhea within a few days of starting treatment. However, recovery time can vary depending on the cause and severity of the infection. Continue taking the medicine for the full duration prescribed, even if symptoms improve earlier.
Even if you start feeling better, some infection-causing organisms may still remain in the body. Completing the prescribed course helps ensure that the infection is treated properly and reduces the chance of symptoms returning.
Yes, some individuals may notice a metallic or unusual taste in the mouth while taking medicines containing Metronidazole. This effect is usually temporary and tends to improve after the treatment course is completed.
Some individuals may notice that their urine appears darker while taking this medicine. This is a known effect associated with certain ingredients and is usually temporary. If you notice any unusual symptoms along with the colour change, inform your doctor.
Certain foods such as aged cheeses, fermented products, cured meats, and some alcoholic beverages may interact with Furazolidone. Following any dietary advice provided by your doctor during treatment can help reduce the risk of unwanted effects.
Dryness of the mouth or throat can occur because Dicyclomine may reduce saliva production in some individuals. Drinking water regularly, sucking on sugar-free lozenges, and maintaining good oral hygiene may help improve comfort during treatment.
Your doctor may prescribe Mefudic Tablet for certain gastrointestinal infections that cause diarrhea and abdominal discomfort. However, not all cases of food poisoning require the same treatment, so the medicine should only be used when recommended by a doctor.
If diarrhea, abdominal pain, or stomach cramps continue despite regular use of Mefudic Tablet, or if symptoms worsen, your doctor may need to reassess the cause of the illness. Further evaluation may be required to determine the most appropriate treatment approach.
