Product introduction

Meflar 250mg Tablet should be used in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Take it with food to decrease the risk of stomach upset. Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better.

Some people may have stomach pain, abnormal dreams, chills, depression, and diarrhea, as side effects of this medicine. Please consult your doctor if these side effects persist for a longer duration. Inform your doctor if you ever had fits (seizures) or any problems with your kidney, heart, or liver.

Meflar 250mg Tablet is an antimalarial medicine and is used to treat malaria, a serious or life-threatening illness that is spread by a parasite that enters the human body by the bite of infected mosquitoes. It kills the infection-causing parasite and stops the further spread of the infection. Take it only as prescribed and refrain from taking any other medicines along with this medicine (unless advised by the doctor) as they may affect the absorption of this medicine. Do not use this medicine for treating any other condition without consulting your doctor.

How Meflar Tablet works

Meflar 250mg Tablet is an antiparasitic medication which treats malaria. It works by increasing the levels of haeme in the blood, a substance toxic to the malarial parasite. This kills the parasite and stops the infection from spreading.

    • Spray to kill any mosquitoes that may have entered rooms in spite of screening.
  • It may cause dizziness or sleepiness. Do not drive or do anything that requires concentration until you know how it affects you.
  • Inform your doctor if you have kidney liver or heart disease.
  • Meflar 250mg Tablet should be taken on an empty stomach.
  • Finish the prescribed course, even if you start to feel better. Stopping it early may make the infection come back and harder to treat.
  • Tips to reduce the chance of being bitten by mosquitoes:

Interaction with drugs

Taking Meflar with any of the following medicines can modify the effect of either of them and cause some undesirable side effects
Severe

Rifampicin (Oral Route)

Do not consume Mefloquine with Rifampicin. It may result in treatment failure. Please consult your doctor. Rifampicin may reduce blood levels of Mefloquine.

Moderate

Sodium Valproate (Oral Route)

Do not consume Sodium Valproate with Mefloquine in case of a history of convulsions. If concurrent use is essential, watch out for convulsions and seizures and consult your doctor if you experience them. They may monitor your treatment and adjust the doses as per the observations. Mefloquine may reduce blood levels of active form of Sodium Valproate.
Moderate

Ritonavir (Oral Route)

Your doctor may monitor the effects of Ritonavir along with your overall treatment and adjust the doses as per the observations. Mefloquine may reduce blood levels of active form of Ritonavir.

Quinine (Injection Route)

To take Mefloquine, ensure a gap of at least 12 hours after taking Quinine. Factors such as old age, chronic heart issues, or low potassium levels may more frequently cause disturbance in heart rhythm, and your doctor may consider ECG monitoring in their presence.

Do not double the dose to make up for the missed one as this may increase the chances of developing side effects.
No, do not stop taking Meflar 250mg Tablet without consulting your doctor even if you are feeling better. Your symptoms may improve before the infection is completely cured. Therefore, for better and complete treatment, it is advised to continue your treatment for the prescribed duration.
