Maxprotil-MD Tablet is taken after meals in a dose and duration as advised by the doctor. The dose you are given will depend on your condition and how you respond to the medicine. You should take this medicine until your doctor tells you to stop. This medicine is not recommended for long term treatment.

The most common side effect is sedation or drowsiness, therefore, it is not advisable to drive or and operate machineries. Avoid drinking alcohol while taking this medicine as it can worsen your sleepiness. It can also cause orthostatic hypotension (sudden lowering of blood pressure on standing) and blurred vision. This is temporary and usually resolves with time. Contact your doctor straight away if you are at all concerned about these side effects.

Before taking this medicine you should let your doctor know if you have jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes), epilepsy, muscle weakness (myasthenia gravis), and increased pressure in the eye (glaucoma). Inform your doctor if you have liver, kidney, and heart problems. Let your doctor also know about all other medications you are taking as some may affect, or be affected by this medicine. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult their doctor.

Treatment of Vomiting
Maxprotil-MD Tablet helps relieve vomiting caused by conditions such as stomach infections, migraine, motion sickness, or certain medicines. It works by blocking specific signals in the brain that trigger the vomiting reflex, helping reduce the urge to vomit and making the patient feel more comfortable.

Treatment of Migraine
Maxprotil-MD Tablet helps treat and prevent migraine headaches. It changes the electrical activity in the brain, blocks chemicals responsible for pain sensation, and also blocks signals that cause nausea/vomiting associated with migraines. By preventing and reducing the frequency of migraine headaches, you can help yourself carry out your daily activities and have a better quality of life.

Treatment of Short term anxiety
Maxprotil-MD Tablet reduces the symptoms of excessive anxiety and worry that are triggered only at the time of stressful conditions that last for a shorter duration. These could be job interviews, exams, stage performances, etc. It can effectively manage feelings of restlessness, tiredness, difficulty concentrating, and feeling irritable.

Treatment of Vertigo
Vertigo means a spinning sensation or dizziness that is triggered due to frequent movement or in people suffering from Meniere’s disease. It usually happens due to a problem in the ear (vestibular). Maxprotil-MD Tablet helps treat this sensation effectively. If you feel dizzy while getting up from bed, sit for a while and then rise slowly to avoid having an accidental fall. It acts on the vestibular system and suppresses the spinning sensation.

Treatment of Nausea
Maxprotil-MD Tablet is often used to prevent nausea and vomiting that may be caused as a side effect of some other medicine and in post-operative patients suffering from nausea/vomiting (in adults only). It acts on the receptors responsible for causing nausea and vomiting by blocking them.

How to use Maxprotil Tablet MD

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Do not handle the tablets with wet hands. Put it in your mouth but do not swallow it. Maxprotil-MD Tablet should be taken with or after food.

How Maxprotil Tablet MD works

Maxprotil-MD Tablet is a vestibular suppressant, i.e., it suppresses the vestibular apparatus in the inner ear by blocking the H1 receptor and stops vertigo. It acts within 30 minutes and, therefore, is effective during acute attacks. It also acts as a dopamine antagonist. Dopamine controls the region in the brain that causes nausea and vomiting, and this medicine blocks the action of dopamine. Therefore, Maxprotil-MD Tablet shows an anti-nauseating and antiemetic action. The mechanism of action by which prochlorperazine relieves headache and anxiety is probably related to it being a serotonin (5HT3) receptor antagonist and a dopamine (D2) receptor antagonist.

Maxprotil-MD Tablet is not recommended during pregnancy as there is positive evidence of fetal risk based on animal studies. However, it may still be prescribed by a doctor in situations where the benefits outweigh the risks.

Breast feeding

CAUTION

Maxprotil-MD Tablet should be used with caution during breastfeeding. Breastfeeding should be held until the treatment of the mother is completed and the drug is eliminated from the body.
However, occasional short-term use of Maxprotil-MD Tablet for the treatment of nausea and vomiting poses little risk to the breastfed infant.

Driving

CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR

It is not known whether Maxprotil-MD Tablet alters the ability to drive. Do not drive if you experience any symptoms that affect your ability to concentrate and react. Please consult your doctor.

Kidney

CAUTION

Maxprotil-MD Tablet should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dose adjustment may be needed.

Liver

There is limited data available on the use of Maxprotil-MD Tablet in patients with liver disease.

Interaction with drugs

Taking Maxprotil with any of the following medicines can modify the effect of either of them and cause some undesirable side effects

Life-threatening

Iopamidol (Injection Route)

Do not consume Prochlorperazine 48 hours before and At least 12 hours after consuming Iopamidol.

Life-threatening

Iohexol (Injection Route)

Do not consume Prochlorperazine 48 hours before and At least 24 hours after consuming Iohexol.

Severe

Moxifloxacin (Oral Route)

Do not consume Moxifloxacin with Prochlorperazine. If concurrent use is essential, watch out for symptoms such as muscle spasms, tremors, tiredness, nausea, reduced appetite, palpitations, or numbness. Your doctor may monitor your heart functioning regularly.

Severe

Lithium carbonate (Oral Route)

If concurrent use is essential, watch out for symptoms such as double vision, weakness, dizziness, impaired coordination, or confusion and consult your doctor if you experience them. Your doctor may monitor your ECG frequently and discontinue the medicines if required. Prochlorperazine may increase the rate of release of Lithium carbonate in the blood.
