How to use Genogyl F Tablet

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Genogyl F 50 mg/200 mg Tablet is to be taken with food.
This will help to avoid stomach upset.
Avoid Genogyl F 50 mg/200 mg Tablet with tyramine-rich food such as cheese, smoked fish, meats and some types of beer.

How Genogyl F Tablet works

Genogyl F 50 mg/200 mg Tablet is a combination of two antibiotics: Furazolidone and Metronidazole, which treats stomach and intestine infections. Furazolidone works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering which is essential for the survival of bacteria in the human body. Metronidazole kills bacteria and other infectious microorganisms by damaging the DNA. Together, they treat your infection effectively.

Alcohol
CAUTION
Genogyl F 50 mg/200 mg Tablet may cause symptoms such as flushing, increased heartbeat, nausea, thirst, chest pain and low blood pressure with alcohol (Disulfiram reactions).
Pregnancy
Unknown. Human and animal studies are not available. Please consult your doctor.
Lactation
CAUTION
Genogyl F 50 mg/200 mg Tablet is probably unsafe to use during lactation. Limited human data suggest that the drug could represent a significant risk to the baby.
Driving
Genogyl F 50 mg/200 mg Tablet may cause side effects which could affect your ability to drive.
Kidney
There is limited information available on the use of Genogyl F 50 mg/200 mg Tablet in patients with kidney disease. Please consult your doctor.
Liver
CAUTION
Genogyl F 50 mg/200 mg Tablet should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Dose adjustment of Genogyl F 50 mg/200 mg Tablet may be needed. Please consult your doctor.

Q. Can I stop taking Genogyl F when my symptoms are relieved?

No, do not stop taking Genogyl F and complete the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Your symptoms may improve before the infection is completely cured.

Q. Can the use of Genogyl F cause metallic taste?

Yes, Genogyl F can cause a temporary metallic taste. This metallic taste can be lowered by chewing sugar-free gum, mints and by brushing teeth after the meals.

Q. Can I drink alcohol while taking Genogyl F?

Avoid drinking alcohol while taking Genogyl F and for at least 3 days after stopping the medicine. Drinking alcohol while taking this medicine may cause an unpleasant reaction (Disulfiram-like reaction) with symptoms like stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, headache, flushing or redness of the face.

Q. What are the instructions for the storage and disposal of Genogyl F?

Keep this medicine in the packet or container it came in, tightly closed. Store it according to the instructions mentioned on the pack or label. Dispose of the unused medicine. Make sure it is not consumed by pets, children and other people.
