Ditrate 40mg Tablet should be taken on an empty stomach. It is best taken at the same time every day. Your doctor will decide the dose and the number of times each day you should take them. You should take the medicine as it is prescribed for you and keep taking it, even if you feel well. If you stop taking it suddenly your risk of an angina attack will increase. Lifestyle changes such as diet, exercise, and not smoking may help this drug work better.

You can develop tolerance to this medicine over time, which means that the same dose becomes less effective. You have to stick to a really specific dosing schedule to prevent this from happening.

The most common side effects of this medicine include headache and lightheadedness. These may disappear once you have got used to the medicine. If you are worried, or the symptoms do not go away, let your doctor know. Some of these can be reduced by taking painkillers, drinking plenty of fluids, and avoiding alcohol. Alcohol may increase some side effects (dizziness, drowsiness, feeling light-headed, or fainting). Medical tests (such as blood pressure) may be required to monitor your progress and check for side effects.

It works by relaxing and widening blood vessels in the heart. This makes it easier for blood to flow to the heart, so it gets more oxygen. This medicine thus helps to increase your ability to exercise and go about your daily life more easily and confidently. It should be taken regularly to be effective.

Driving

UNSAFE

Ditrate 40mg Tablet may decrease alertness, affect your vision or make you feel sleepy and dizzy. Do not drive if these symptoms occur.

Kidney

SAFE IF PRESCRIBED

Ditrate 40mg Tablet is safe to use in patients with kidney disease. No dose adjustment of Ditrate 40mg Tablet is recommended.
However, inform your doctor if you have an underlying kidney disease.

Liver

SAFE IF PRESCRIBED

Ditrate 40mg Tablet is probably safe to use in patients with liver disease. Limited data available suggests that dose adjustment of Ditrate 40mg Tablet may not be needed in these patients. Please consult your doctor.

Interaction with drugs

Taking Ditrate with any of the following medicines can modify the effect of either of them and cause some undesirable side effects

Sildenafil (Oral Route)

Do not consume Sildenafil with Isosorbide Dinitrate. If Sildenafil is essential, ensure a gap of at least 24 hours after discontinuing Isosorbide Dinitrate. Please consult your doctor.

Life-threatening

Tadalafil (Oral Route)

Do not consume Tadalafil with Isosorbide Dinitrate. If Tadalafil is essential, ensure a gap of at least 48 hours between taking Tadalafil and Isosorbide Dinitrate.

Sildenafil (Oral Route)

Do not consume Sildenafil with Isosorbide Dinitrate. If Sildenafil is essential, ensure a gap of at least 24 hours after discontinuing Isosorbide Dinitrate. Please consult your doctor.

Taking these two medicines together may cause significant decrease in blood pressure which can cause fainting or even a heart attack. Along with this, avoid taking other medicines which belong to the same class such as vardenafil and tadalafil.
