Product introduction

You should take Dexlan 60mg Capsule as your doctor advises. The dose will depend on what you are being treated for, but it should be the lowest dose for the shortest amount of time needed to treat your condition. It should be given as an injection into the vein by a healthcare professional. It may take up to a few weeks to work properly, but your doctor will tell you how long you need to be taking it for. You should keep on taking it as prescribed even if your symptoms disappear quickly. If you are taking this medicine for a long time, your doctor may carry out regular tests to check your levels of magnesium, which can fall with this medicine.

Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, and feeling or being sick. These tend to be mild, but talk to your doctor if they bother you or do not go away. The risk of side effects may increase the longer you take this medicine. Serious side effects are rare, but some need immediate medical attention. Ask your doctor what these are. You may be more likely to have a broken bone if you take it for a long time. It is best to avoid foods that seem to make your symptoms worse, such as rich, spicy, and fatty foods. It also helps to cut down on caffeinated drinks, such as tea, coffee, and cola, as well as alcohol.

Dexlan 60mg Capsule is not suitable for some people. Before taking this medicine, you need to tell your doctor if you have severe liver problems, are taking medicines for HIV, have had an allergic reaction to similar medicines in the past, or have osteoporosis. Alcohol does not interfere with the way Dexlan 60mg Capsule works. However, drinking alcohol makes your stomach produce more acid than normal. This medicine can make you feel dizzy, sleepy, or affect your vision. If this happens, do not drive, cycle, or use machinery or tools until you feel better. It is not usually recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Uses of Dexlan Capsule

Benefits of Dexlan Capsule

Treatment of heartburn Associated with Gastroesophageal reflux disease (Acid reflux)
Dexlan 60mg Capsule helps relieve heartburn associated with GERD by reducing excess acid production in the stomach and providing sustained acid control. This helps reduce irritation of the food pipe and alleviates burning pain, regurgitation, and discomfort after meals or at night. With better control of symptoms, patients can eat more comfortably, sleep better, and carry out daily activities with less disruption from persistent heartburn.
Treatment and Maintenance of Healed Erosive esophagitis
Dexlan 60mg Capsule promotes healing of the damaged esophageal lining by reducing acid exposure. It also helps maintain healing with continued treatment, lowering the risk of symptom recurrence. Easing pain on swallowing, chest discomfort, and inflammation helps patients regain comfort during eating and improves overall day-to-day functioning and quality of life.

How to use Dexlan Capsule

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Dexlan 60mg Capsule is to be taken on an empty stomach.

How Dexlan Capsule works

Dexlan 60mg Capsule is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that works by blocking the acid-producing pumps in the stomach lining, thereby reducing gastric acid secretion. This reduction in acid helps relieve heartburn, protects the oesophagus from acid-related damage, and supports healing in acid-related conditions such as GERD and erosive esophagitis.

Quick tips

  • Take Dexlan 60mg Capsule exactly as prescribed, preferably at the same time each day, to maintain consistent acid control.
  • Relief from heartburn may take a few days; continue taking the medicine regularly even if symptoms improve early.
  • Avoid stopping treatment suddenly without medical advice, especially if it is being used for erosive esophagitis or maintenance therapy.
  • Limit foods and habits that worsen acid reflux, such as spicy or fatty foods, late-night meals, smoking, and alcohol, to get better symptom control.
  • If symptoms do not improve or worsen, or if you develop new symptoms such as persistent diarrhea, abdominal pain, or difficulty swallowing, inform your doctor promptly.
  • Long-term use should be reviewed periodically by a doctor, as prolonged acid suppression may be associated with nutrient deficiencies or other risks.

Frequently asked questions

Dexlan 60mg Capsule should be used as prescribed by your doctor for a different duration and dosage as per your underlying condition and the response to treatment. Follow your doctor’s instructions carefully to get maximum benefit. Depending on the illness you are being treated for, you may need it for a short term or a long term. Do not stop taking it even if you feel better, as it may worsen your condition. Talk to your doctor before stopping Dexlan 60mg Capsule if you have completed your course or if you wish to come off Dexlan 60mg Capsule.
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) happens when high acid secretion in your stomach enters your food pipe (esophagus) and causes a burning feeling in the chest (heartburn) or throat, sour taste, or burping. Dexlan 60mg Capsule acts by decreasing the acid produced in the stomach and relieves the symptoms of GERD.
Dexlan 60mg Capsule can cause osteoporosis (thinning of bones) as it decreases calcium absorption, leading to calcium deficiency. This leads to an increased risk of bone fractures on long-term use, such as hip, wrist, or spine fractures. Inform your doctor if you have osteoporosis or if you are taking corticosteroids (these can increase the risk of osteoporosis) before starting your therapy. Consult your doctor on ways to prevent this. Your doctor may advise you to take calcium or vitamin D supplements to reduce the risk.
Yes, Dexlan 60mg Capsule may cause diarrhea as a side effect in some people. This is usually not bothersome, but if you experience persistent watery stools that do not go away, along with stomach cramps and fever, get medical help immediately. These symptoms are most likely because of the overgrowth of harmful bacteria called C. difficile, and the diarrhea is known as Clostridium difficile–associated diarrhea (CDAD). Use of Dexlan 60mg Capsule lowers the natural stomach acid, which normally helps to kill bacteria, and this can cause uncontrollable diarrhea associated with stomach cramps and fever.
Long-term use of Dexlan 60mg Capsule can lower your magnesium levels in patients taking multiple daily doses for a year or longer (at least 3 months). Get your magnesium levels checked at regular intervals. Tell your doctor if you experience seizures, dizziness, abnormal or fast heartbeat, jitteriness, jerking movements or shaking (tremors), muscle weakness, spasms of the hands and feet, cramps, muscle aches, or spasms of the voice box.
