Ganciclovir Topical(NA)


Clygan ointment is used for the treatment of acute herpetic keratitis (inflammation of the cornea of the eye) caused by herpes simplex virus. 

How it works

Ganciclovir belongs to a class of medications called as synthetic nucleoside analogues. It is an antiviral drug that works by blocking the viral DNA replication, a process essential for the virus to grow and multiply.

Expert advice for CLYGAN

  • Do not use ganciclovir topical in children <18 years of age unless prescribed by the doctor. 
  • Avoid use of contact lenses in eyes before and after instillation for 15 minutes.
  • Inform your doctor if you are using any other eye drops or ointment.
  • Do not drive or operate machinery if you experience visual disturbances due to instillation in eyes. 
  • Discontinue use and consult your doctor if irritation in eyes persists.
  • Ganciclovir topical is known to have an effect on fertility and hence contraception is advised in men and women of child-bearing age while on this therapy.
  • Ensure that the ganciclovir treatment does not exceed 21 days.
  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or are breastfeeding.
  • Do not use if you are allergic to ganciclovir, acyclovir or valganciclovir or any of its ingredients.
